SCHOOL CHOICE FOR ALL? NEW LAWSUIT A Houston-area Muslim parent has filed a federal lawsuit against state officials for prohibiting Islamic schools from participating in Texas' new, taxpayer-paid private school voucher program.
The plaintiff, Mehdi Cherkaoui, alleges the state has “systematically targeted Islamic schools for exclusion” from the $1 billion program, which prevents Muslim families from applying for vouchers to use at schools of their choice.
