Single-pilot operators aren’t required to have SOPs, leaving pilots without key decision‑making support to recover from #IIMC. This gap increases risk for pilots .

I saw separatists set up at five different spots around Calgary today. Four spots were empty of supporters and in the other there was one person signing. 25% seems high, especially in urban areas. Imagine if Calgary and Edmonton decided they didn't want to share tax revenue with rural locations?

ALT: a man in a green shirt is sitting at a table with the words `` so ... you 're dumb '' above him .
Has anyone explained to the Alberta separatists that they would effectively be inviting near-permanent Liberal majorities in the country that surrounds them?
The CPC without its 30-plus seats in Alberta is barely a competitive national party.

The same is true of Iceland providers during the August solar eclipse. Yes it's kind of expensive there year round but even crap hotels are charging $3000-$5000 per night during the week of the eclipse. That's just egregious price gouging.

Don't blame the sports, blame the providers. My preferred hotel in Vancouver is normally close to sold out year round and is about $400 per night. But it's now $2000 per night during the World Cup weekend.

Picture of a helicopter’s wreckage on a frozen, snow-covered lake with the text “A23Q0038 – To prevent IIMC accidents, regular and realistic recovery training is critical”, the TSB coat of arms in the bottom left corner and Canada wordmark in the bottom right corner.
Flying over snow-covered terrain under overcast skies can make height above ground hard to judge. Add falling snow, as seen in a 2023 Quebec helicopter crash (A23Q0038), and you have the recipe for a loss of visual references.

I'd be curious what percentage of the population would use the "extra light" in the evenings though; most kids are in bed by 9pm and I suspect a lot of working adults are either in bed or getting ready for bed around 9pm, because they have kids to put to bed or they get up early for work.

Yes, those are all the "fun" arguments. At the end of the day, the science says Standard Time is safer and healthier. There was a study in the USA that showed a crazy reduction in heart attacks. Granted, some of that is due to not changing at all (since there is a spike following the time change).

Or if kids are out, they would be out regardless of the light. Our neighbourhood rink is used as much after sunset (with lighting) as it is before. In fact, it's used more after sunset because kids are still eating dinner until 5/6pm.

I agree that changing the clocks is not good but disagree with Daylight Time. The science says that Standard Time is healthier in the long run. And in the winter no one is using that extra hour in the late afternoon; adults are mostly still at work and kids are inside because it's too cold.

It's a real favourite. And that's despite spending a decade in the Canadian Army. Though, having seen what heavy weapons do up close I remain a firm supporter of a defensive posture vs randomly attacking other countries.

Yeah, or in my case, any of the anti-war songs from the Vietnam era. Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" came to mind the other day.

TSB Rec A24-02 calls on @Transport_gc to require technology that helps pilots avoid and recover from #IIMC. Regulations take time to change, but operators can take action now.

Our referendum failed by a narrow margin. I like to think it's because we're smart and scientific and we want Standard Time but given Alberta's current political climate I think that premise may be wrong. 🤷♂️

Alberta did the EXACT same thing with our referendum question. My guess is that Daylight Time is what the masses think they want, and governments these days tend to choose the path of least resistance (since that makes for easier re-election).

I'm still inclined to stick to the science of healthier life with Standard Time and hope that Alberta goes that direction. Though given the clown we currently have that's driving backwards while running over LGBTQ+, immigrants, sex ed and books with edgy content, I highly expect us to follow BC. 🤷♂️
