truly tho, it's only when i began writing in earnest that i realized that i (and many others) don't actually always know the real meanings of the words we use
and at least on the page, it does matter
sometimes when i'm editing, i'll highlight a word and just write the dictionary definition of the word in the note and i promise it's never meant to be rude but i know it irritates the hell out of the writers i work with

I would even go so far as to suggest that it's also a way for some managers to express their prejudices with little to no recourse or reprimand
At this point - people who describe their work communication style as "straight-forward" and/or "blunt" is such a red flag for me.
It always is a cover for micro-managing, bullying, and thinking that strong-arming people is the best way to get things done.
