Overview of a sketchbook page showing pencil drawings of an Arctic fox in various positions. "Learn more about Arctic Fox"
Pencil sketch of an Arctic fox attempting to catch a bird taking flight; " Its short summer coat makes it almost look like a red fox. But it is smaller — about the size of a large cat."
Pencil sketch of an Arctic fox curled up, its bushy tail covering its muzzle, eyes open. "Its ears, muzzle, and tail are shorter than those of the red fox — an important adaptation for living in cold environments."
Pencil sketch of an Arctic fox sitting with its head turned toward the sky, barking. "The Arctic fox may bark for many reasons, especially if it feels disturbed on its territory." It's a field lesson learned the hard way. I once couldn’t understand why an Arctic fox was barking from the top of a hill. At first, I thought it was calling its cubs or its partner. I later realized it was barking because of me… Even from afar, I was too close to its den, and it was clearly trying to let me know. Sorry, little fox. If others try to tell me the same thing in the future, I won’t make the same mistake and I’ll move away. Wildlife disturbance is still far too often underestimated. Enjoying wildlife should never come at the cost of disturbing it — even if it means giving up certain sightings.
Learning from the field: an Arctic fox barking wasn’t calling its cubs — it was warning me (Cf image 4). I will not male the same mistake again 😌 Respecting wildlife sometimes means stepping back. Art can help us see, understand, and protect. (translation in alt text) #wildlifeart #scienceart

Naturalistic watercolor illustration of the Svalbard reindeer. It shows a detailed scientific plate presenting the animal in side view, head studies, coat colors, and some explanatory annotations. Realistic style, on a light background, taken from my collection of Arctic animals.
Close-up of the original poster. Here we see reindeer digging through the snow in winter to access the tundra for food. Also shown is the main watercolor. A male reindeer with antlers in the process of growing.
Watercolor portrait of a Svalbard reindeer with its cute little round face. We also see a detail from a painting showing a polar bear chasing a reindeer. This is something that can happen, but it's not that common. The main cause of reindeer mortality is lack of food due to the harsh climate.
The final version of the poster is available online in my Redbubble store along with the rest of the Arctic animals collection. These animals are painted with great attention to detail in watercolor to create posters that are both artistic and scientific!

Realistic watercolor of a male King Eider painted on a nautical chart of Svalbard. The bird shows the characteristic large orange bill knob. Detailed illustration of an Arctic sea duck.
This is a male King Eider! 🦆❄️
A stunning Arctic duck that you can sometimes spot in Svalbard during summer.
The big orange knob on its bill is actually made of feathers! The skull is completely normal.
I painted this species on a nautical chart during an expedition to Svalbard last summer.
Realistic watercolors of rock ptarmigans: an adult in white winter plumage, an adult in brown summer plumage, and a speckled chicks.
Some close up showing the details of the painting featuring rock ptarmigan with watercolor. Details of the cryptic plumage, the feet covered by feather and one of the cute chick.
This rock ptarmigan painting are part of a larger poster showing the land bird species of the arctic. It include the passerines.

It’s the one featuring the land birds of the Arctic 🐦❄️
The hardest species to paint is definitely the rock ptarmigan… its cryptic plumage is a real challenge 😅

Yes, climate change is making their lives harder. But not all adults are starving — some thrive, others struggle, and youngs are the ones who pay the highest price. They is also less birth... Watercolor of the Razorbill, painted in a scientific way. Did you see the uggly chick ? If you look closely 👀, you’ll see a little white bump ⚪ at the tip of the chick’s beak — called the egg tooth 💎. It helped the chick break out of its shell during hatching 🥚✨.

Jaeger (or Skua) painted with watercolor. They’re seabirds that rely on animal protein: just like murres catch fish, skuas also hunt other birds. It’s natural—and it has been this way forever. No need to pity a bird preyed upon more than a fish preyed upon… that’s how nature works !🌿🌀
✨ This illustration is part of my Arctic seabird posters, available on my Redbubble store (link in bio).
I love painting jaeger chicks.
Reason 1: they’re ridiculously cute!
2: Skuas often get a bad reputation because they steal food from other seabirds or sometimes prey on their 🐥. But… they do it to feed their own adorable baby 💛!
