Itβs World Book Day today- a brilliant reminder of the power of reading.
Books open up new worlds, spark curiosity, and help young people build the confidence to imagine their own futures. Encouraging a love of reading from an early age is one of the best gifts we can give the next generation. ποΈ

Tommy needs a place in a special school setting, but his parents are being forced to battle it out in the courts and tribunal service to secure him a place.
I welcome that the Government is looking to do something in this area and look forward to seeing their plans develop in the coming weeks.

I got into politics as I saw the issues with our education system from being a teacher for over a decade.
One of the biggest issues in my inbox is SEND provision, and parents are crying out for change.

The Liberal Democrats believe that jury trials are the cornerstone of our justice system.
Scrapping them will have little effect on the courts backlog, whilst curtailing a fundamental right.
We have a plan to tackle the issues in our court system and still protect the right to trial by jury.

Committees to examine children and young peopleβs mental health in new inquiry - Committees - UK Parliament
Today the Education and Health and Social Care committees have launched a new inquiry into children and young peopleβs mental health.
For many parents and school leaders, knowing how to access the correct mental health services for young people is too tricky. The joint inquiry will examine what support is currently available and where there are failings in the system.

This week has been Childrenβs Mental Health Week.
As Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee, mental health is an area I am extremely passionate about. I am pleased that my committee, with the Education Committee, have announced a joint inquiry into children and young peopleβs mental health.

2/2 An illustration of a young person with text that reads 'We want to know. What is driving the increasing rates of poor mental health among children and young people? How effectively are services provided in education, community and health settings responding to need? Is there evidence that the push towards early intervention reduces demand on acute/specialist services later on? Share your views.'
We've launched an inquiry with the Education Committee into mental health support for children and young people. With 1 in 5 facing mental health challenges, we're examining what support is available.

Itβs National HIV Testing Week.
Testing is free and confidential. Early diagnosis means people can live long, healthy lives, and canβt pass HIV on.
You can get tested locally via the Oxfordshire Sexual Health Service or order a free home test vis
Letβs tackle stigma and make testing routine.

My residents are sick of being let down by Thames Water. The company is dead in the water.
The PM should deny the Β£16 billon rescue deal that is about to cross his desk and establish a public benefit company.
I look forward to the opportunity to discuss this further with the Minister.

The changes to leaseholds announced today are welcome, but the Government must go further to tackle rip off service charges.
Social housing tenants are often the ones left most affected by these rip off charges.
I am pleased that the Minister has agreed to meet to discuss this issue further.

The top down, Westminster-centric approach to how we build houses is not the answer.
The Liberal Democrats will always favour a bottom up approach, working with communities, like we did in the Vale of White Horse.
Neighbourhood planning is the way forward.

Trump is acting as the world's bully and there comes a point where you have to do something.
Sucking up doesn't work. We have to put threats on the table.
Trump adores the Royal Family and the royal visit to America is leverage that no one else has. We should use it.

South East Water have done the extraordinary by making Thames Water look good.
The Liberal Democrats have long called for a better regulator to fix our broken water industry.
We are also calling for water companies such as Thames Water to be made a public benefit company.

I was shocked when a midwife in Oxford told me stories of sewage dripping through the ceilings at the hospital and into the maternity unit.
Whilst staff at the hospital do their upmost to provide the best care for patients, they can only do so if supported with extra funding from the Government.

The reports findings were worse than we were expecting.

The chronic mismanagement of Thames Water is why I called a debate on its future in Parliament yesterday.
Sadly, stories like Len and Jenny's of sewage in peoples homes are all too common.
If Thames Water cannot be trusted to do the basics, then what can they be trusted to do?

The Liberal Democrats have long argued for shifting the big levers on the economy to make a difference to people's lives.
That's why we are pushing for a Customs Union with the EU.
We have to see shifts in the economy so that small business can thrive.
