The U.S. just surpassed a grim measles milestone As the U.S. officially breaks 1,000 measles cases in 2026, experts say that the rate of infections is accelerating much faster this year than it did in years past

Congratulations to us.

We've officially passed 1000 measles cases. In two months, we approached half of the TOTAL confirmed cases (2281) in 2025. And that is in the beginning of 2026. The rate of infections is accelerating faster than last year.

This nonsense slop diagram in Microsoft's GitHub training guide is embarrassing. Maybe review things before unquestioningly publishing generated garbage? I guess that's too much to ask of one of the largest and richest companies in the world.

Itโ€™s an RNA world. RNA is posited to be the first genetic material, arising 4 billion years ago. It can store information and act as an enzyme. Eventually, it duplicated its information into a more stable form, DNA.

F.D.A. Refuses to Review Moderna Flu Vaccine

NEW: The F.D.A. refused to accept an application from Moderna for its mRNA flu vaccine.

Its reason: The agency did not think Moderna compared the new vaccine to one of the best flu shots available. The company spent $750M+ on a 41,000 person study.

Diagram showing the likelihood of crashes in Waymo vs human driver

Interesting data (from Waymo) showing that robotaxis are significantly safer than the average human driver. This is likely because they respect traffic rules. An NYT op-ed by a neurosurgeon calls for a broader adoption as a public health measure. Thoughts? www.nytimes.com/2025/12/02/o...

And donโ€™t get me wrong we should definitely condemn when the tech is used wrong, especially by big companies. Sometimes we forget the same tech can help humanity: new drugs, materials, climate prediction, enhancing accessibility (translation, communication aids) improving education, etc

I agree that not all models are trained ethically but there are some that are, even the vision models. See FHIBE dataset.

Thereโ€™s also tools and frameworks that have been made to improve transparency and help developers understand a dataset's origin, limitations, and appropriate use cases.
