Thatโs a nice, if a bit mystical, description of writing as productive labor.
Iโve been thinking about how part of my job, grading papers, has been obstructed by the introduction of AI into the worldโฆblocking the expression of both my students and myself (writing time lost addressing this problem)
At some point the labor of actual thinking and writing has to happen! AI defers that labor indefinitely. It offers a friction-free fantasy of intellectual work. As though it can happen by magic.
whether war, vaccines, or critical infrastructure there is contingent of the right that seems to believe that their security from the worst things that happen is some kind of metaphysical principle rather than the result of specific historical processes that could've gone otherwise and still could

Listened to this takedown of SAPIENS on a long drive the other day. Very funny, recommend!
Yeah, this turn of events is not good. But legacy media has lost so much of its former power. The larger media transformation is not over yet. Consolidation on the corporate side is bad but decentralization on the user/maker side continues. Opens up space for new voices, platforms, news.

Good point about accessibility barriers with in-class handwritten tests and blue book writing assignments.
Regular in-class writing assignments in blue books are good, but they cannot be the only means of assessment ๐

The meta version of this is watching โOnce Upon a Time in Hollywoodโ at the New Beverly Cinema in LA, which shows up briefly in the film when Sharon Tate says, โWhatโs going on at the dirty movie place?โ and points to the theater, which is having a premiere.
This episode is clarifying and well-told, with villains and secret plans worthy of a film adaptation. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

This is a genuinely huge, sweeping victory today for the University of Californiaโor rather, for us, its faculty, acting through our faculty associations, while the UC itself maintained a strict policy of deer-in-headlights silence.
