Oh wow! The Belgian ones just extend the train in terms of carriages, but it's a dead end as a walkway

I found this insanely complete wiki page on coupling to answer my Q's
Railway coupling - Wikipedia share.google/U1iEdGVge0vw...
I always thought it was a safety requirement so they can do it while there are passengers on board. Been a while since I've been on trains in England, but I don't recall them ever doing it mid-journey
That's for the coupling of carriages right? They have those in Belgium too, nothing more satisfying than when they bonk against one another
Not that it solves everything. But they've had a "hide yourself" feature for years so you don't see your tiny face staring back at you, but others still see it. Every time I have the chance I tell people because I grew very uncomfortable with the arrangement until I found it
P-funky....
5 piece. I invented a member
Local Ghent band called Lezard who are a 6 piece who flirt between Squid, BC, NR (newer version), Charlotte Adigery, and Devo. It's fun
This is fantastic. You have / had a bit of a spacey g-funky jazz scene here in Ghent that I really liked, that beyond the mid-80s sound you said, this really nails
I'm convinced the production of Fucked Up vinyls in recent years is responsible for like 3% of global emissions
Listening to new Harry Styles. it's like they extracted what made Shakira's 'Waka Waka' really fun and just tweaked it a bit here and there and made an entire album
Saw a post about Chas & Dave and I have to listen to this beauty. Maybe it's because I grew up in Edmonton, but there's something powerfully mythic about their music to me. Like those who documented the Lascaux cave paintings before they were damaged by light of modern day

Folkloric music that felt tangible and breathable in the face of inexorable change that would wipe it out. They had a few silly songs that people seem to think is all they did, but they worked with Joe Meek, wrote murder ballards ('Railroad Bill') and Kinksesque paeans to place ('Edmonton Green')
Yeah, I heard good things about the one in Bruges. We will see!
Investor*
Slightly suspicious of the funding and the buyers (part of the property is sold to to an inventory, but not disclosed how much or who), but I love that place and hope they retain what makes it great. It's my favourite place to take my daughter to the cinema too in Ghent.
Any excuse for me to post this

Big ticket*, altho bug ticket has its own attraction
Look at that! Richer colours and crisper print than many limited edition, bug ticket, bespoke books I buy. Not an insult to them, but a sincere compliment to @strangeattractor.bsky.social
Been skirting this one for a good while. Hoping it's a more refined, less compulsively loser-ish version of CCRU's work. Regardless, before reading a word, it's the most beautifully pressed books I've bought at a regular RRP. The paper is divine to the touch, a nice sturdy french flap, rich colours.
First thing, I'm obviously not a doctor and you should consult your own trusted GP, but I'm pretty sure you need to be taking "Hall of the Mountain Grill".
Also painted a replica of the Ghent Altarpiece that would be used by Van Der Veken centuries later to paint a new 'Just Judges' panel after it was stolen in 1934.
I really liked your piece! but it was these pix that actually made me finally listen to the album haha.
I have this thing called the "T-Rex theorem" where if there's a recognisable song, broadly 60-70s, broadly British, but I don't know it - then it's T-Rex. I heard this exact song in a bar a few weeks back and was tapping my toes to it and well, the theorem is never wrong.
Three recommendations means I'm going to grab it tomorrow! Also got Keshed on the shelf, naturally.
I remembered I've read 'That Awful Mess on Via Merulana' too, which fits this bill and sort of atmosphere I'm looking for. Consolidated borderless narrative that gives way to something communal that could be conspiracy. I feel like there's more examples of it on TV, but I want the literary fix
I'm going to buy it now. Two recommendations never steered anyone wrong!
Thank you Sarah!
