@mapache yeah, sadly this world is still not particularly equal in participation, despite, honestly, I don't think there are access barriers

@phosh I think android now uses the area also to show some minimal notifications (or the camera shape for indicating that is active), so could be more precise about the cuts shapes (E.g. rounded shapes) and allow to do something similar?

Someone somewhere said that they wouldn't believe the UNIX V4 recovery was real unless they saw video of the tape being read on an original drive.

So: here's the video of the tape being read on an original drive, last week.

If I understand this morning's news properly, we're invading Venezuela because they nationalized some American oil company's assets and gave it to Venezuelan companies. In unrelated news, America has nationalized TikTok and given it to American companies […]

@SnoopJ no sadly the only thing would be adding some debug code and see what's happening... Using `G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=AppIndicator-and-KStatusNotifierItem-Support` may help to get more debug data, but I'm unsure if it would be helpful to understand the root cause

@SnoopJ Ah ok, reason why I wasn't aware of a proper "leak", memory hog could be a thing but mostly depending on applications themselves TBH.

The fact is the extension is basically just doing what the applications asks to (which is a weak point of the protocol more than anything).

On the […]

@SnoopJ there's no such know issue, if you have data to support what you say, please report it in a bug.

gmain: Use alternate signal stack if the application provides one (!4010) · Merge requests · GNOME / GLib · GitLab Some applications, toolkits or languages may define an alternative stack to use for traces. This is for example the case of go. So, in case an...

@pojntfx congrats, this is getting nice!

Wondering how much we could rely on go GC though rather than manual memory management

I suspect also https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/merge_requests/4010 has helped for some low level stuff

Earlier this year, LWN.net featured an excellent article named "Linux's missing CRL infrastructure", and today I'm pleased to announce our plans to address that with a utility named 'upki'.

Canonical will be working with Dirkjan Ochtmann and Joe Birr-Pixton over the coming weeks to start […]

New #gogettext (my #puregotk -based gettext bindings for Go) release! v0.2.0 now supports `BindI18n` and `dgettext` to allow scoping gettext translation domains in a more fine-grained way. This allows using two different translation domains in more complex scenarios, such as a Go GObject library […]

Audio Roles, Volumes and Routes What if you want to have your phone’s alarm clock volume different from your music playback volume and have the later go to speakers while alarms should continue to go to the phone’s speaker? While this could be handled manually via per application volume and sink setups, this doesn’t scale well on phones that also have emergency alerts, incoming calls, voice assistants, etc. It also doesn’t specify how to handle simultaneous playback - for instance, if an incoming call rings while music is playing.

With some #wireplumber changes landing we're a big step closer to enabling separate volume controls for things like media, alerts, alarms, etc. in #Phosh. Here's a short overview on the current state: https://phosh.mobi/posts/role-based-routing/
