… than those who get their news primarily from messaging apps, social media or from friends and family. The more time people spend on SM daily, the more likely they are to regard these topics with suspicion. I’m sure BlueSky-ers might have some theories on which platforms are most to blame… 😉

(45% on average across 30 countries citing it as the biggest reason why people are wrong about key social realities.) People who report getting their news primarily via tv, radio or newspapers are more likely to trust scientists, elites and elections…

Ipsos
Ipsos | Global Market Research and Public Opinion specialist.
Always my favourite read of the year - Ipsos Perils of Perception. People (still!) tend to overestimate the scale of issues that matter to them. Most interestingly social media now receives the most blame for these misperceptions #socialweb

Lots of reasons why increased polarisation is bad - a key one is that trust in institutions is harder to achieve, because "benevolence" is an element of trust, but much harder to convince on if "the other side" is in power. US an outlier, but GB not in great place @policyatkings.bsky.social

Really important report on class in the creative industries - this idea that we’re not tapping into working class talent has been discussed for some time, but really hope this prompts some action www.theguardian.com/inequality/2...

Considering we found 60% of the public would support a ban on social media for under 18s and only 17% opposed a ban; a ban on under 16s is likely to be even more popular. The public mood has turner strongly in favour of a series of tougher measures to keep kids off social media.

Talking at a workshop on polarisation this week - always worth remembering the UK is NOT the US: we've always had more liberal attitudes on average; US has gone through extraordinary polarisation/party sorting since 1990; BUT some signs of smaller/emerging gap in UK...

I think I'm going to try and create a bit more steam for UK journalists to head over here and ditch X. Let me know if you have any ideas how best to do it and I'll try my best
(I'm not the only UK journo heading over here of course but I think it needs some organisation)
