Today on Tight Focus, I look at the Horror in the High Desert series, directed by Dutch Marich. Thoughtful use of different filming technologies create a patchwork of tantalizing clues and theories in these low-budget faux-doc horror films.

Jesse Singal: βI donβt understand why all these experts with degrees keep disagreeing with me. So demoralizing. What could the explanation be??β
So the power went out to our entire neighborhood. Anything to prevent us from doing this demo stream, it would seem.

While I've been between video projects of my own, I've been putting together this compilation of the Hitman 2 streams that @sbmakesstuff.bsky.social and I did together. I'm actually incredibly proud of this editing work and would be thrilled if y'all checked it out.

This build was going pretty whatever, but then the cult showed up.
They gave me the Eye and a Shiny Rocket Launcher to go with it, and that's how I was powering it for most of the run. This turned out to be a little bit faster in the end, though.
here's the dick explosion gif boss

it took an expensive, coordinated effort & a lot of people saying βthis doesnβt matterβ to get from a bathroom ban costing one state $400 million & a gubernatorial race to βtrans people must turn in their documents which become invalid in a few hours or face fines & potential jail timeβ in 10 years.
it's all just art. "porn" is just art that makes you horny, in precisely the way that "horror" is art that makes you scared and "metroidvania" is art that makes you write video essays
screenshot from linked-to essay that reads: This may look like hypocrisy on the surface. But this third demographicβs actions are internally consistent once you realize their unspoken premise: that cisgender outcomes are inherently more healthy than transgender outcomes, regardless of what the individual in question personally experiences. A corollary to this is that children should always be pushed toward cisgender outcomes rather than transgender ones. Everything else follows from that.
...this right here is the skeleton key for understanding all of Jesse Singal's reporting on this subject: (excerpt from: juliaserano.medium.com/the-cass-rev...)
Yeah, I caught a bit of your stream on this the other day! It's definitely interesting.

I'mThe same player position from the end of the game of A Feast For Odin, now with a lot more tile coverage and several more expansion boards

A player position from the game A Feast For Odin, about halfway through the game. A very large amount of negative space remains uncovered on the home board.
Sometimes you eat the bar....
As for your actual question: I'm enjoying the game quite a bit (playing ~1 run per day). I took a break for a few months, and now they've released some new stuff and I'm back. I like the little fictional world they've built, and the auto-battle mechanics are just complex enough. I like the design.
You buy the game for one price, which gives you the first three characters and all their cards and everything. The three newer characters are sold separately. There's no packs or anything else to buy, and no limit on your runs. You still earn gems playing, and they just buy cosmetics now.
So they decided they wanted to launch on Steam and also rework their pricing because that system wasn't actually making them enough money, and they really didn't have their plan figured out. There was a some public back-and-forth on the plan, but the way it works now (at least on Steam) is:
You could do any number of free runs with no rewards for winning, and they had that whole free/premium battle pass model going on, like Rocket League-style, so you could buy a battle pass to get more gems and tickets. People seemed pretty unhappy with this system, for I think obvious reasons.
They had a weird journey with their monetization stuff, for sure. It was on its own launcher on a F2P model, where you could do one premium run (with cosmetic rewards) for free per day and then you had to buy tickets for more with gems, which you could get from playing or buy with money.
My grandmother ran a dance studio so all through my childhood I was a part of shows and recitals and stuff, and sometimes I really miss that backstage world.
