Thanks to the roughly 60 people who took part in Toronto's solidarity ride for Alex Pretti, as well as to the over 100 other cities around the world who also hosted rides. Here's a video I recorded as the ride passed by Queen's Park. #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #VikingBiking #StopICE

Two people cycle in a dedicated bike lane that is separated from the roadway by green infrastructure. A person using a mobility aid waits to cross an intersection, standing behind a tactile walking surface indicator.

"You cannot in good faith stand up on Monday and say, 'Stop building shelters!' And then stand up on Thursday and say, 'Get everybody out of the encampments.' It is REPREHENSIBLE to do that," says Councillor Gord Perks of Brad Bradford's motion.

Councillor Myers: "Just so I have it clear, the city is paying $1.5 billion for these GO Train stations. Who's going to own these assets when they're complete?"
The province, says staff.
Myers: "So the City of Toronto has paid $1.5 billion to build assets for the province."
Staff confirm, yes.

Another thing that I do while driving is try to anticipate stuff. Could a jogger come from behind that hedge? Could that kid trip and fall onto the street? If yes, I slow down, watch carefully, and give lots of space. No, you don't have a right to a clear road. Yes, driving should be that hard.

Some politicians will say out loud that road deaths are the cost of doing business. MPP Ric Breese at the Bill 212 committee meeting said that we would need to slow cars to 5km/h to avoid all deaths, and of course we can't do that, so "there occasionally will be injuries".

Big black title on yellow: “HATE TICKETS?” Subtitle: cameras aren’t “gotchas” or “cash grabs”—they’re basic physics. Left: black line illustration of a vandalized camera box with cracked window and graffiti “30kmh 24 hrs DAY.” Right text: cameras work as intended but the Province plans to ban them, promising “a million ways” later. Bottom caption: “Drivers hate this one weird trick: it’s called ‘going 30 in a 30.’”
“What is ASE?” Underlined definition: Automated Speed Enforcement = speed sensor + camera ticketing only over the posted limit; owner-liability fine; meant to change behaviour; frees police for higher-risk work. Bottom blue block: “What it’s NOT: It’s not a substitute for design. They’re our training wheels until we build the safety in.” Simple line drawing of a standing camera unit.
White slide with a yellow pill label reading “ASE is a tool.” Text explains that ASE buys time and saves lives while we rebuild streets to make safe speeds the default. Bold subhead: “The global perspective on ASE is simple,” followed by four points: design the danger out; use cameras where risk is highest; keep the process transparent and fair; turn cameras off once the street itself does the job. Minimal black line drawing of a fallen camera at bottom right.
Blue headline bar: “Multiple experts have made it abundantly clear: Automated Speed Enforcement works.” Body text cites: SickKids + TMU study of 250 school zones (45% reduction in speeding); Dr. Andrew Howard’s quote about speed driving injury risk; Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police support; CAA 2025 survey bullets (speeding common in residential areas; 73% slow near cameras; 52% don’t speed back up; 46% avoid ASE roads). Small “Speed Limit 30” sign icon in bottom corner.
Drivers hate this one weird trick: matching the big number on the sign to the one on your dash.
Ford wants to ban school-zone cameras + fund “a million ways” later. Great! Build them now. Don’t switch off the only thing lowering speeds today.

Dasrath, who spends much of his time driving for work, said he regularly racks up $300 to $400 a month in parking and speeding tickets.
“When you get the ticket in the mail about four to six weeks later, the first thing I felt is anger and rage… you feel like you’re being bullied.”

This, by the way, is also the answer to people snarking "there's a Charter right to bike lanes now?" No, and the decision doesn't say there is. The government can still cause you bodily harm, the Charter only asks them to present the barest evidence-based case that it's needed.

Really cannot overstate the extent to which the court was impatient with the total lack of evidence presented by the government.
