the death of secret societies has increased antisemitism by redirecting ambient social distrust towards Jews
unfortunately he was Schmittposting like a week ago
this but unironically
you are the one who claimed “annihilation of Israel [as a state]” requires the suppression of former Isn’treali human rights (which it prob does, considering a plurality of them want their neighbours exterminated). I was purposely distinguishing that from “annihilating all Jews on Palestinian land”
yeah the “necessity” of depriving Israelis of basic human rights falls under what I was preempting as “deroposting” but Palestinians are already deprived of basic human rights. why is this unacceptable for Israelis “ever” but acceptable for Palestinians “any timeframe short of forever”?
right, it's exculpatory in that it doesn't consider annihilating Israel as a state a valid option (but implicitly does for Palestine).
(I literally just convinced myself not to give in to deroposting but you made sure to add "as a state"!)
it's exculpatory in that it takes "security for Israel" as non-negotiable.
3) I don't either, and it doesn't escape my attention that Trump's material aggression so far has been towards states there *was* some pre-existing war lobby for like Iran and Venezuela. but successful instant-decapitation warfare is also new, so "don't know" should not mean "assume the best case"
2) well, I'm not sure what "traditional interstate competition" is but Russia and China haven't talked about making Canada into a province or an oblast ever, so I don't think theoretical IR concepts should "trump" the literal here, esp *since* we're in a moment where they evidently don't apply
instead, this response embraces its "nationalist anti-globalist" character in implicitly asserting that since, even though they threaten and insult us all the time, Trump's USA is part of the Schmittian ingroup of "Western nations", they are immune to international law and Iran is the "rogue state"
1) yes, this was a worry I had about it at the time though it was so much better than anything else I put it aside. the correct way to negate this would be to distinguish between descriptive and prescriptive "reality", and insist on the prescriptive validity of e.g. norms against targeting civilians

Holy shit I was right and I don't like that I was right. This is really not good at all. They wanted to let fully autonomous drones use their AI here. Oh my god that's uhhh. Hm.
I hope all these people saying Anthropic is trying to set defense policy agree that if the Department of Energy unilaterally demands private power companies rebuild their grids with renewables, and those companies refuse, they're trying to privately set energy policy. useful precedent!
as of just waking up yeah, open to critique

this guy made a genuinely good speech about how the "rules-based international order" is fake like a month ago, now he's supporting our current biggest geopolitical adversary doing to another country what they want to do to us for a "rules-based" reason they're not even claiming themselves

the guy that hasn't washed his hands in years is threatening a $300 bn AI company's existence
because they want guarantees that he won't use their AI to surveil American citizens or kill people autonomously
and he refuses to agree to those terms

the Newsom thing is electoralism as masochism (which is increasingly its dominant psychological profile). the primary hasn't started yet, there's zero evidence he's more electable than any other Democrat, his entire selling point is a scissor statement, "what's the biggest bullet you could bite"
I think this is also the pattern that's tanked public interest in climate change, where you're constantly getting hyperbolic deadlines like "three years to save the planet!", made up out of thin air with no guidance on what this entails, "missing" them and then there's immediately another one
people who believe puberty blockers do the Dokuro-chan thing IRL have one of the most cathected forms of willful ignorance I've ever seen. if permanent littlespace drugs for me to "virtuously reject" didn't exist we'd have to invent them
