They hit that nostalgia button early and often in hopes everyone will hang on until the underwhelming end. It sort of succeeds to varying degrees. This is in the conversation for worst Scream movie but the series as a whole is entertaining enough that even the bad ones are ok.
Now Watching: Scream 7
A new Ghostface emerges in the quiet town Sidney has rebuilt her life in. Patchy and absurd, this honestly doesn’t make a ton of sense and it doesn’t seem to make much difference.
You can not piss on hospitality! I will not allow it!
Now, nearly four decades later, I know it’s the most endearing piece of shit ever made. It’s honestly pretty impressive the path this movie has taken on the life it continues to live. I’m being completely genuine when I say this is everything I love about movies.
Now Watching: Troll 2
A vacationing family discover that the quaint little town they chosen is inhabited by goblins disguised as humans who plan on eating them. I remember watching this when it came out and even then I thought this was maybe the most endearing piece of shit ever made.
Nature gone mad was a fun subgenre for a minute and this is one of the best examples.

Zoo animals that become exposed to PCP tainted water go on a wild rampage. Absolutely bonkers, this movie legitimately seems dangerous with its animal stunts but makes for a movie you can’t look away from.
Isao Natsuyagi is great as the title character who accidentally stumbles into a huge mess. Very entertaining.

Now Watching: Samurai Wolf
A ronin wanders into a small town steeped in a conflict that is complex and increasingly dangerous. Fast paced and very satisfying, this weaves a complicated web of violence and double crosses.
I’m so glad Baz Luhrmann found this footage and took the time to assemble it. Very highly recommended.
Now Watching: EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert
Featuring never before seen footage and recordings, this shows an incredible live performance from the King of Rock N Roll. I’m not even the biggest Elvis fan and I loved this. The editing is phenomenal and absolutely Oscar worthy.

Now Watching: Scared Shitless
A plumber and his germaphobic son are forced to battle a genetically engineered monster hiding in the pipes of an apartment building. Endearingly dumb, this knows exactly what it is and leans in to it hard.
He does about as much with the material as he can. Not terrible but awfully average.
Now Watching: How To MaKe A Killing
A disowned bastard will stop at nothing to become the sole heir of a family fortune. I’m sure this would like to consider itself a dark comedy but it’s not very pitch black or funny. It does have distractingly handsome Glen Powell as the lead.
They didn’t exactly nail that, or really anything else, but this is fun in the same way a lot of these time capsules are. Not a brain in its head in an enjoyable way.

Now Watching: World Without End
Astronauts returning from Mars get caught in a time warp and are propelled deep into the future with a post apocalyptic planet populated by mutants. I love revisiting some of these old 50s sci fi time travel movies to see what fashion the future might hold.
Future Hong Kong superstar Danny Lee is the conflicted man that wants justice for the innocent victims but not at the cost of the blood on his hands. The idea is really well executed and shows how good practical special effects can be. This was an absolute blast.

A disabled man is given powers that cause him to transform into an unstoppable monster bent on violent retribution for those that can’t seek vengeance.
On Peacock
This is a smidge more restrained a performance but still wildly entertaining. Some streaming service should give him a 10 episode show to make all the weird shit he wants. Very good stuff.
Chris Fleming: Hell
Now Watching: Chris Fleming: Hell
A mix of comedy, music and absurd skits as Fleming gives he thoughts on the world around him. After watching the new special earlier I immediately went looking for more.
It’s impossible to look away for fear of missing anything. This was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Now Watching: Chris Fleming: Live At The Palace
Comedian Chris Fleming unleashes his electric energy on a raucous Chicago crowd. Riotously funny and wildly performative, Fleming’s thoughts are as scattershot as his antics on the stage. It’s like an absurdly confident toddler on a sugar rush.
The writer ended up penning some movie called The Fast And The Furious so I guess he did alright. Not perfect but the performances and monster are so cool you can forgive its multiple problems.

Now Watching: Split Second
A police officer haunted by the murder of his partner by a serial killer who might not even be human. Dystopian yet silly, this could have been British Predator if they did a better job unveiling the monster. Rutger Hauer gets to play the tough action hero.
The plot is light hearted even if it is super problematic. Emmanuelle herself Sylvia Kristal plays the maid and actually showed a lot actual comedy chops on the film. Honestly not bad at all.

An immigrant housemaid in the country illegally is forced to blackmail a 15 year old rich kid but doesn’t count on falling on love with her mark. It’s crazy what was a mainstream comedy with a Rod Stewart soundtrack in 1981.
