I HATE Family Circus. I hate Jeffy, Barfy, Billy, Dolly, everyone! I hate it so much that I beeline right to it when I open the paper just so I can give myself a daily annoyance. Makes me feel alive.
When this movie came out, something told me no don't do it. I survived all these years only to wind up watching it a couple weeks ago. It is AWFUL. Always go with your gut.
Same story w Top Gun. When I was finally bullied into watching it recently, that same feeling was there. The worst movie.
This is so heartbreaking.
This is my cue to tell the story of the post-mortem on a chicken pox death I got in the lab. The internal lesions were *everywhere*; brain, liver, stomach, lungs...everywhere. This individual suffered greatly. Chicken pox is no joke. So thankful for the CP vaccine!
Great digging here on Platner. Let's not fall for this sham of a man.
Not RFKjr, the diseased culinary expert with a silver spoon up his ass lecturing us on how to cook dead bears.
Bring back DEI and Pride, stop helping those ICE fucks and maybe I'll consider coming back.
MGP is such a fucking disappointment. Good luck to Hennrich!
Polis is likely being blackmailed.
What a great shot!
Clothes used to be crazy expensive, and it would be highly impractical to just buy new dresses if you lost/gained weight. They were designed to be able to absorb those changes.
I meant I was not being pro-capitalism by suggesting fashion provide us with built in size-adjusting. I am being critical of it. If I don't have to keep buying all the time, I am not being a dutiful, capitalistic consumer.
Yes we agree, I know my history. I was speaking to regular ppl not those who can afford couture and can just buy more Dior pencil skirts when they gain/lose. I was suggesting fashion doesn't really offer adjustable clothing as a concept. I don't mean stretch pants and knits.
I didn't finish my Marilyn point. In no way would MM pull a 16 off the rack now and expect a fit. That's vanity sizing.
FWIW Marilyn Monroe was a size 16.
Vanity sizing is the marketing response to consumers wanting a smaller number on the label irrespective of the inches of the garment. What used to be a 16 is now called an 8 because the smaller number appeals to the consumer. Sewists know this bc patterns retain the inches = size.
No I don't mean fast fashion, which everyone should reject. I mean styling and design. Think of a kilt, there is adjustability built in vs pencil skirt. Fitted blouses vs wrap style. Fitted bodice vs belted shift. You can't buy them, they're not there.
Of course it makes me a bad capitalist to promote such ideas.
And the solution can't be wrap-around skirts ๐. If we were SMART we would embrace styling that allows for natural changes. I found a skirt pattern based on 1850s construction that does the trick. It's brilliant and would obviate the need to keep buying with every inch +/-.
Thanks for this discussion. I'm a sewist and it occurred to me that modern styling has no wiggle room for weight gain/loss. 200ya clothes weren't like that, it would've been impractical to buy new clothes for pg, normal gain etc. Fashion DEMANDS money to be spent constantly. We should reject that.
I was just thinking of how Judy Garland was treated by her studio. It's so shocking and heartbreaking. You could be Judy Fucking Garland and STILL not be good enough by some made-up standard.
It's like those gross pussyshavers. Just admit you get turned on by little girls and leave us women alone.
I agree. I used to date a man who was an inch shorter than me. WOW was he hung the fuck up over that.
Your grandma was a straight up bitch for saying that.
I'm a sewist and was speaking from the perspective of clothing design, not vanity sizing (a concept that makes me boil with rage). It's easy to *design* clothing that will look "good" on ppl who are stick thin. It takes more skill to design for real, curvy women.
I need every one of these right now.
I have never been so desperate in all my life.
It takes a lot of skill to robe all body styles. Size 0 is a tube sock and anyone can design that.
