New at PB: @sdraucker.bsky.social reviews 6 books that look at “the ways in which the classical music world extracts and exploits performers’ bodily labor, presenting—often in agonizing detail—the physical pain that music making requires.”

“Writing about the ‘most conservative’ performing art, these novelists present especially nuanced critiques of racial exclusion, gendered violence, sexual abuse, and labor exploitation.”

I spent the last five years serving public history, arts, and culture at NEH. Please take a moment to let your representatives know you support NEH. Or read on and I can tell you a little bit about why I believe in public funding for the humanities.

I do a “brain dump” assignment where students have to “get messy” and sketch out (often by hand!) all of their ideas for a paper. Doesn’t fully prevent AI of course but emphasizes PROCESS and the mess of the writing-as-thinking process
