There are four times as many people in the world now as compared to when I was born. It can't go on. Cutting back on meat is becoming essential.
A small fishing boat tied up on the River Wear in Sunderland, NE England as a hint of spring is in the air. Late afternoon sunshine delivering warm hues to the city's skyline.
Sailing towards spring with a River Wear vista in NE England, captured late afternoon during this week's Springtime taster.
It was lovely to see the slight haziness diffusing the warmer hues of the sun's rays across Sunderland's city skyline.

Oh, dear, Linda, that is concerning. I wonder what #BlueSky will have to say about that. βΉοΈπ»

A first view of Thames lock as the tow path crosses over to the right bank. On the right a well established housing comblex with its own marina. On the left a vast new complex takes shape.
As we approach the lock, Johnson's Island, created by a bend in the River Brent, is on the left. A boat with a red strip is moored against the island. The towpath is below us on the right with the lock in the distance.
A close-up of the double lock. The lock house is on the right. Dock Road crosses the canal at the end of the lock. Behind the lock a vast new residential complex is being constructed.
The view looking back up the canal from the bridge on Dock Road with Thames lock in the foreground. On the right is another island formed by the Brent and used for boat repairs. In the background are recent housing units.

Thames Lock is the final lock before we reach the Thames. I don't expect accolades for these four photos but I felt they should be included for completeness.

A goat stands on a plinth to get a better view at Spitalfields City Farm
I don't have many goat photos, Mark, but this was taken at Spitalfields City Farm.
Thank you Mark. You too.
Yes, and the lack of investment in education and training is one reason for our decline. So short sighted.
A quaint cream cottage with a brown tiled roof, by a river. The cottage is surrounded by trees and reflected in the water. A compacted stoney driveway along the left side. Sky is cloudy and grey.
Good morning and Happy Saturday, I hope you have a lovely day and weekend.. ππ³βοΈ

That brought an early morning smile to my lips. I love the angle that's taken from, Mark.
Heart warming.

Below Brentford Bridge the river diverges from the canal for one last time, creating an island where various boatyards operate.

A structure, when you see it close up fills you with awe. One of the engineers John Fowler was responsible for London's first underground railway, the magnificent arched roof at Victoria Station, Dollis Brook Viaduct and much more. A hero.

Church (St Lawrence), pub (Six Bells) and Brentford Bridge meet here at a lamp post which is part of the bridge.
Below the bridge illuminated by the sun, old crumbling boats are moored two abreast with a third boat on the other side. The arch of the earlier bridge, constructed when the canal was built, can be seen below the later structure.

Immediately below the gauging lock the river and canal recombine and we cross Brentford Bridge on the canal's final stretch. Records of a bridge here date back to 1224.

Looking west in the 1920s, a train calls at the down platform of Merton Abbey so may be propelling
#OnThisDay 97 years ago Merton Abbey closed. It was the sole station on the LSWR & LBSCR joint line between Tooting (Junction) to Lower Merton (Merton Park). The Northern Line extension in 1926 killed off this route's passenger traffic. John Alsop buff.ly/uecMwXP
A fascinating link to history. The Russells married the Wriothesleys (call me Risley) who had got the land from Hviii in return for dubious services.
Too true! Thanks Evan.

Brentford. A stone's throw from the lock is the Butts. A pretty residential enclave built built between 1680 and the mid-1700s on what was originally the place for target practice.

Congratulations to Zoe for calling out Trump-lite's hypocrisy.
I believe it was the Americans primarily who ruined their economy.
Why? Because the current anti-american regime displaced another dictatorial regime that was subservient to America.
Not that anyone will mourn the evil Khamenei.
