A thought that has crossed my mind with you mentioning this, is the end game, if the DfT has thought that far ahead, is that flexible tickets, aka anytime etc, are only available in a form of pay-as-you-go digital tickets, of which their are various trials being run currently.
If people thought that nationalisation & rail reform was going to result in simpler ticketing then you are most certainly now wrong.
Something is very wrong when you can change your train for with an advance ticket (okay with a fee), but won't be able to with flexible anytime ticket is madness!
The 'bodged' Comfort 2+ class section of what would be the restaurant service dining car on the SBB Giruno couldn't make it clearer that the absolute minimum has been done to adapt the SMILE interior layout for Westbahn vs SBB.

Agreed! It does seem an odd choice not to fully fit then out new seats, & does seem to suggest that the refurbishment work is being done on the cheap. I can already see multiple differences & potential issues aren't going to be a good look for the passengers Lumo is wanting to serve & attract.

Had to say hi to Miles & Margo at St Pancras prior to my first ride on a class 810 Aurora using the wires, with 810012 doing the honours. ⚡️
Was also, my first time out of St Pancras on an 810, as well as my first time riding in its first class. They are certainly a worthy successor to the 222s!

I was 20 when HS2 was announced. Great to know i’ll probably be in my late 60s when the Birmingham-Manchester section starts work let alone finishes. Seems like a country doing things the right way!
