youtu.be/Pdp8Uye3qHA?... i suggest watching the full series, although a lot of problems covered are uncommon just knowing that they *could* be something to check/correct has been immensely useful.

Comes to us all mate, fiddley I can handle it's having to use the eyeloop for stuff I could do fine without before
A thankyou to @gadgetuk164.bsky.social after watching his video on restoring dreamcast drives i decided it couldn't hurt to recap this one and see if it helps, now we're back to reliable function π
only trouble is how long it takes to dry, if you can get a good cotton bud in there of soft cloth it's fine.
heh if they're anything like tape cassettes from the 80s ive had probably bizarre but excellent results using Pledge Multi-Surface to get the surface dust/grime off so they play and load easier
wow that's pissing out with some force chief, hope it doesn't cause too much grief for you before its fixed
warm electronics smell is probably the reason ive collected as many crt's as i have XD id still like a CTM 644 and an Atari SC1224 as they just look cool.
i love it working on original xbox when the filth on the board actually stops the leaking capacitor liquid from spreading everywhere, after decontamination you'd never know :D
oddly enough in my experience that kind of caked on dirt is deceptive, it usually prevents stuff from corroding if it dried out fast enough and after a hot soapy bath and alcohol rinse it'll be fine underneath.
Normally Iβd try to fix it first, but yeesh!!
Going through all the CRTs today and every single Amstrad monitor works. These things are bombproof.
I've seen a bunch of clips on using car windshield repair kits on chipped crt screens, would love to get your review oh how effective they actually are
Removing the anti glare coating from an Apple monitor.
Orders #5534 and #5545
I installed BennVenn IPS screens in these Model 1 and Model 2 #Atari Lynx handhelds! The process is quite different depending on the model. For the Lynx II I also recapped it and replaced the power circuit.
Want to see what I did? Check below! π
On to the next jobs! This does need a replacement speaker, I'm thinking of robbing the one out of the AKF12 if it's the same and just replacing the one in that another time (it has its own quirks to fix), and then it's getting some advice on how to rebuild the Composite and S-Video circuits
Before I got to that beautiful picture of Hydrocity though, I figured out that I'd messed up, when going from male to female the pinout is mirrored but I'd forgotten to ask for that, a quick bodge later it helped atleast prove the monitor works and I'll get a new one on its way soon.
My experience with every one of these monitors has been whichever connectors got the most use, are likely riddled with cracked solder joints, or worse, in this case, the pads lifted off the board. Using awg 30 solid strand kynar, I wrapped each pin and reconnected it to the thankfully big traces.
More Acorn AKF30 fun, the very kind people at Cool-Novelties.co.uk provided me with an adapter with a female connector, which right away clued me into a few issues, I only got any kind of picture when the connector was held just so and garbled at that, cont/.

Definitely donβt see these in the shop often π
lmao is that a caddied disc! ngl i wish consoles went with that idea itd've been sick as heck
I'm really hoping I can get some advice from @visitthecave.bsky.social and @adriansdigitalbasement.com who've done similar projects as this is effectively a Commodore 1084s-P and the more information we can share on keeping these alive and useful, the better.
Eventually I'd like to fully recap it, partner it up with an Acorn Archimedes and potentially add the missing composite and S-Video features
My list of jobs are mainly, remove and wash the casing/stand, possibly replace the speakers, replace the jacks at the rear as theyre very crusty and if budget allows, the power switch too.
ITS ALIVEEEEE! (Ish) so the seller did a terrific job of mummifying this beauty in enough bubblewrap to get here safely. It smells very much of being in a shed but after leaving it 2 days to dry I powered it up and here we are!
