same opportunities as a result of the unspoken stigma that disability disclosure brings. There is absolutely no reward for disclosure on the pathway to professorship. Disclosing disability as a doctoral student almost always harms students irreparably, with only 50% of disabled getting their PhDs.
Nowhere in higher education is it more damaging to disclose a disability than a PhD program. Particularly "invisible" disabilities. Students who disclose out of necessity are often viewed as a liability, are scrutinized as to whether they "belong" in the program, and ultimately aren't offered the

Lastly, Horowitch does everyone a disservice by ending with a quote that paints a rosy picture: "The reward for saying you have a disability, versus the stigma--the balance between those two things has so radically changed." I suggest Horowitch enrolls in a PhD program.

You know what that sounds like, @theatlantic.com @rosehorowitch.bsky.social? The gaslighting techniques that student services offices for accommodations deploy in intake interviews with disabled students, in which counselors tell students they do not really need xyz accommodations for 45 mins.
βItβs almost like itβs part of their identity,β Lindstrom said. TRAGIC! She continues: "By attributing all of their difficulties to a disability, they are pathologizing normal challenges," with Lindstrom quoted as saying: βWhen it comes to a disorder like ADHD, we all have those symptoms sometimesβ

Which researchers? What are your sources? Horowitch misleads readers with claims like "No one is more skeptical of the accommodations system than the academics who study it."She then mentions one psychology professor's research in total, zero references to studies. She quotes a cognitive

It is with great sadness that I learned that Devva Kasnitz has past away. She was a disability champion and anthropologist extraordinaire. Devva, you were the first disabled anthropologist I had ever met (aside from myself) and a true friend and role model. I will miss you more than you can know.

Very sad to learn of this news.
I'm feeling heartbroken this morning after waking to the news that the brilliant Jonathan Sterne has passed. Even knowing he was sick, this is way too soon. We worked together on www.dukeupress.edu/the-audible-... a genius rethinking of what sound is & on the MP3 book. Field makers. A huge loss. RIP
