I've been seeing more mania surrounding Claude and OpenClaw these past 2-3 weeks, and it just reminds me that all useful technological advancements since the beginnings of mathematics are based on predictable behaviours and repeatability.

Having humans in the loop doesn’t make the AI think more like people,
it makes the human thought more like AI output.
You get shallow, surface-level ideas instead.
It draws in boring people with boring projects who don’t have anything interesting to say about programming.
Prompting an AI model is not articulating an idea.
You get the output, but in terms of ideation the output is discardable.
It’s the work that matters.
You don’t get build muscle using an excavator to lift weights.
You don’t produce interesting thoughts using a GPU to think.
Generative AI is the production of synthetic content based on existing content. It's, almost by definition, a zombie technology, and turning us all into online zombies, neither alive nor dead, endlessly churning out content, is its perfect use case

Because software engineering is where GenAI is currently having the most visible impact, the AI commentary class have converged on it and are now suddenly experts in SWE productivity, despite little to no experience of actually building and maintaining software.
I'm seeing 2026 turning into a bad year for teams who've been commanded to deliver the "AI" productivity gains their boss read about.
When the 10x, 5x, or even 1.5x fails to materialise, teams are getting the blame: "You must be holding it wrong".
