The Dutch faced this in the 70s and chose to reduce vulnerability by reshaping short journeys so they didn’t require oil at all. That wasn’t ideological. It was pragmatic resilience. We could learn the same lesson instead of doubling down on car-dependent local trips.

It’s also a subsidy, paid for by everyone, including those who don’t drive, either because they can’t afford to or because they’ve chosen not to expose themselves to volatile fuel costs. Why should they underwrite someone else’s oil consumption?

When war sends oil prices soaring, the lesson isn’t to suppress the price of petrol. It’s to recognise how exposed we are. Freezing fuel duty again would entrench dependence on imported oil at the very moment we should be reducing it.

AI-generated artwork is officially not eligible for copyright protection after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the appeal.

The court ruled that a work must have a human creator in order to qualify for copyright.

For the love of god will the current crop of web designers please learn that not everyone has their font size set to "medium", fgs test your websites in ways that people actually use them. I would estimate that 1 I'm 6 sites render like this on my phone

If you are planning on maintaining robust copyright laws that protect creators, this is not the answer you give.

This clip makes it abundantly clear the @uklabour.bsky.social government is planning to introduce a copyright exception for commercial research (read: AI training) - which would be disastrous for British creatives.

If anyone is friends with any Georgian air traffic controllers, buy them a nice bottle of wine. As guardians of pretty much the only narrow gap still available between Europe and Asia that avoids both Iran, the Gulf, Ukraine and Russia, they are under some substantial pressure.

Especially now, joy is just as important as survival.

The world might be cruel and chaotic, but that doesn’t mean you should only exist in a state of struggle.

You deserve laughter, comfort, adventure and love.

Whenever you can, seek out things that make you happy, no matter how small.
