Every day Mamdani comes out and is like "hey guys, I turned off the orphan-crushing machine. Literally just had to flip a switch. Took less than 5 minutes."
After decades of dem leadership pissing and moaning and fundraising about how complex an issue it is and how difficult the process is etc

I know a lot of people feel like they have to do everything, and get overwhelmed that they can't. If that's you: Find one way to contribute that works for you, and do it as well as you can. People will depend on you for that, and you can depend on others for everything else that needs doing.

Half the battle with this guy is just reiterating government can and already does good things that are so ubiquitous theyβve become invisible. Heβs able to remind you in a way that you understand that good government can exist outside of a 24/7 vengeance operation, and in NYC already does.

These are all fantastic, feasible things the Massachusetts Legislature can do that will have an impact. I'm particularly glad to see the focus on courthouses as that is where ICE is most active and where it is hardest to both observe and disrupt their actions.

Vermont Long Distance Transportation Map. It shows routes for Amtrak, Greyhound, and Vermont Translines going along the length of the state and into neighboring states, showing all of their stops. Local services are shown, too, in reduced detail. There's Green Mountain Transit, Tri-Valley Transit, The MOOver, and more. Together, all the routes form a loose mesh over the whole state, covering cities and suburbs, as well as many small towns and ski areas. Published January 2026. Full text description through the link.
I made a map of all the public transit in Vermont! It's the map I always wish I had when I plan travel there. My goal is that someone sees this map, learns about a bus near them, and then takes the bus because of it.

"MassDOT completed a traffic count program."
Do you have the results of that? My suspicion is that MassDOT is sizing the roads assuming huge traffic growth in the next 30 years, as traffic engineers sometimes do, and a smaller road would be fine for today's counts.

Folic Acid is also known as Vitamin B9. This is the government making sure that people get essential vitamins and minerals. This is as normal as iodized salt or fortified orange juice.
This headline is unnecessarily alarmist.

Calling it "Folic Acid" instead of "Vitamin B9" is a choice and makes it sound way more like a scary drug than a healthy vitamin.

Speculation phase, list of 100+ ideas. #7: Road diet along Memorial Drive. #12 one thru lane on Memorial. 1-6, 8, and 9 were the larger intersections that advanced.
Constraints (e.g. legal, physical requirements): Equal or better Ex Intersection Level of Service. (alongside reasonable constraints like safety, no flood impacts)
Necessities: Overall Intersection LOS E or Better. (alongside other reasonable necessities like lighting, space constraints)
Desires: Signalized Individual Turn Movement LOS D or Better (alongside reasonable desires like wayfinding, creating a sense of place)Constraints (e.g. legal, physical requirements): Equal or better Ex Intersection Level of Service. (alongside reasonable constraints like safety, no flood impacts)

Alternative B3, Tight Diamond Intersection with Bridge. It's literally an offramp as if Mem Drive is a 60mph highway and not a 25mph parkway.

I looked back on yesterday's #MemorialDrive slides. #MassDOT considered smaller roads (pic 1, items 7, 12), but lists an inviolable constraint "Equal or better level of service" (pic 2).
It's overbuilt today. If you require no compromises for cars, of course you'll get a highway offramp! (pic 3)

One of my biggest takeaways from living in Tokyo was that the city is incredible in spite of the fact that 95% of the architecture is unremarkable.
It makes the years-long design review process for a single apartment building in the U.S. seem all the more frivolous.
