Pretty crazy how important the blockade of a trade route is right now

Disabled. Old. Terminally grumpy. Kind. I'm basically the best parts of Capaldi's Doctor in a body that's falling apart. Still a white cat on the Internet. I love to learn new things. TTRPGs, comics, Hallmark movies, weird stuff. He / Him.

This is an amazing book, heartfelt and real. That it’s by the Veep/The Thick of It guy should tell you what you need to know about the quality of the writing.
Here's mine:
I SAID it's a factory for nightmare fuel.

There are entire armies of white people employed by the Federalist Society who can't string together coherent sentences and get paid $200,000 a year to churn into shit no one will ever read because they're white and racist and those people now run the government
Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
So obviously Republicans hate affirmative action because they're racist but their idea of it where some completely unqualified bozo gets hired to fucked everything up because of political mandates from above about skin color is just how conservative orgs works
Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
That books would be written about it, even if they're unflattering? He doesn't seem to mind notoriety at all. As long as he's safe and rich, I don't think he cares about literally anyone else.
That's what's on my mind lately.
Like I said, it's a factory for nightmare fuel.
I don't think this is a plan. It may not even be in anyone else's mind. But considering Trump is among the most "I got mine" motherfuckers in world HISTORY and likes everything to be about him, can we really discount the possibility that he would enjoy being known as the man who destroyed the U.S.?
What if inbound missiles are in the air and Trump is on Air Force One ... and refuses to launch a counter-strike because he's on his way to Russia where he and some number of family members will be safe and live at a high standard of luxury for helping Putin destroy the United States?
Now, if that turned into any sort of nuclear exchange, and it probably would, there's the increasing risk of a full-scale nuclear strike. That isn't my concern. My concern is this term is increasingly being correctly described as Trump's revenge tour.
We simply do not have enough soldiers, nor can we muster sufficient recruits, to overcome China in any conventional war. Thus, WMDs come into play quickly - likely tactical/battlefield nukes to start (remember, Trump asked in the early days of his first term why he can't use nukes).
So what happens if, for example, China intervenes? We either stop attacking, or accept the risk (both during and after) that we will injure and kill Chinese soldiers, potentially enraging the Chinese people so much (and understandably so, because this is what we do) that they enlist en masse?
Right now, we're the baddies. We are the problem, and I think every nation knows it. In the wake of Trump's tariffs, Vance's insults, and Trump's threats, literally no one in the world (except PERHAPS Israel) should consider the U.S. to be a reliable partner.
How long before Russia and/or China decide this is too threatening to their national security and economy and send troops? Because that feels like the point WWIII begins. Will the Five Eyes continue sharing intel? Will NATO get involved after all Trump has done?
We're already seeing catastrophic effects on oil prices, before the destruction of storage tanks. We're already seeing stock markets skid like a speed skater who lost their balance. And insuring tankers is meaningless if people decide the physical risk to them is too great to board a ship.
My brain is a factory for nightmare fuel, most of which never leaves my gray matter (not the hardcore band). This time, I'm sharing.
What if the Iran War puts sufficient pressure on the world economy that China and Russia send troops? How long before it goes nuclear? What if Trump does nothing?

I find the idea that some suit out there is convinced they can get pop culture media obsessives in the same convention hall as LA influencers wearing raver candy and Etsy war bonnets, and that’s somehow going to work, incredibly delusional.
They all want to be San Diego Comic Con, except for the ones that have inexplicably decided they want to be San Diego Comic Con, But Cool.
One of the most depressing things about the war in Iran is how a bunch of grown ass men are acting like this is a fucking video game.

Salt water laced with cancer-causing chemicals, a byproduct of oil and gas drilling, keeps shooting out of the ground in Oklahoma.
Experts say it means even more wastewater is spreading underground, poisoning the state’s water supply.

One of the things that really chaps my ass is seeing people talk about not being able to trust US media (valid!) but then thinking that media outlets from other countries are entirely honest and unbiased.
We really are all so desperate to outsource critical thinking.
Trump take... basically everything
Reality keeps being so on the nose that there is no nose
The fun thing about this is that no matter what, Albertans will continue to have worse access to healthcare, education & other public services.
