As a fan of both you and @cmpriest.bsky.social, this makes me angry on your behalf. You both have written books that I loved and wish I could read again for the first time. If the issue is the “business” and bean-counting, tell the suits to eff off.
Thinking about it, my go-to for background sounds when writing is an app like Portal or Noizio. Or, I'll go with jazz or classical that doesn't have vocals if music appeals.
If I started trying to craft playlists for my stories or characters, I'd get even less writing done....

I know some writers create playlists for their projects or for characters. I truly can't quite figure out how that works. If I have a song's lyrics in the background, I lose focus. Wordsmithing folks, do you write with music on? Any tips for doing so?
I grew up in a rural area and we didn’t have a phone line. Also couldn’t afford to run a new trunk line. During the summers, I arranged sleepovers with my friends by sending letters. This was the mid-1980s in Arizona. I still write letters to my nieces and nephews.
