Hello world,
Thank you for being beautiful.
Love,

Lived in Tucson. Destroyed those Sonorans from desert food trucks. Lived in Medellin. Loved the Colombian dogs—though bandedja Paisa is still Medellin's best dish. But I'm from Chicago so I gotta go with a fresh Vienna sausage run through the garden. I don't do ketchup but whatever. You do you.
Well, two days until municipal elections here in Chicagoland. Make sure you vote. Today's tea party library board trustee could be tomorrow's Ted Cruz.
I only ever heard the label "abundance" used in progressive American Christian circles. Ex. Jesus's love = we should never fear we are living with scarcity; instead, treat each day as though you are living in abundance." Did that thinking influence the decision to choose this word for this movement?
Whatever happened to Forrest Claypool? I used to live down the street from his campaign office when he was running for Cook County president against John Stroger. Seemed he was an Obama guy with a bright future
This should not be posed by journalists as cost-cutting measure. This is an attempt to gut civil rights enforcement across the federal government and therefore across American life. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...
I hear Trump hates John Marshall because he never liked shopping at Marshall Field's.
Same with South Korea. Maybe Americans need fascism to learn the stove is hot and 🔥 bad.
One Hot Minute was the last decent Red Hot Chili Peppers album.
Today's episode of the @nytimes.com Daily podcast discussed the Kendrick v. Drake beef. I enjoyed it, along with the question of authenticity. I'm hoping @kendricklamar.bsky.social takes the Bob Dylan at Newport Folk Fest route and pivots. Not Like Us is his Blowin' In the Wind. He's more than that.
A Complete Unknown reminds me that talented people often don't know or care why they can do what they do. They just do it. On the other hand, Inside Llewellyn Davis portrays a talentless loser who should undergo self-examination but doesn't and forges on regardless. Maybe that's why I love that film
Reading some of the analysis of current events, I'm reminded of a quote from Succession: "The money wins. The money always wins."
That's how it feels now. But our fate is not bound to a system that reduces our worth to how much we own. Shiv Roy was wrong: the money will not win forever.
I definitely love Chicago's IG, Deborah Witzburg, calling out white supremacists in the police and speaking truth to power. Keep covering her work, and good job!
My brand new laptop crashed after the latest Windows 11 "update." THANKS, Donald!!!!!!!!!!
Five minutes?! That's an impressive rendition of a slacker if you had an hour, let alone five minutes.
You're ruining your slacker rep.
Photos of people carrying banners and signs in stand outs and events, many of them uplifting messages of love and affirmation for our trans and non binary siblings. A swipe of blue, pink and white stripes across the middle of the graphic. Text reads "They will know us by our LOVE"
"Today, tomorrow & always the fluidity of our expression & experiences will live on. Trans & non-binary siblings are made in the image of God – period."

New Year's resolution was listen to more St. Vincent. For some reason, I never could get into her. After listening to her first three albums a few times and then the collab with David Byrne, I think I'm getting it. Side note: is David Byrne the David Lynch of music? They have a similar mien—quirky.
Subscribe to a newspaper that produces a digital replica of the physical paper. A local paper is your best bet for serendipitously discovering an interesting article when you virtually turn the page. The @chicago.suntimes.com is my go-to for this.
Hopefully it was an honest-to-goodness dive bar. I would love to get hammered there.
The weaponization of America's most powerful prosecution agency, the Department of Justice, has begun. The rule of law, a bedrock of our democracy, is on shaky ground.
Just say you like mild sauce and all is forgiven
Listening to some of Trump's rambling speech on public radio has me wondering what Putin might be thinking. He must be salivating, thinking how he'll play Trump the way Putin played Yeltsin when Yeltsin was drunk half the time.
I watched the film Master and Commander last night and was struck by the themes of honor and duty. It seems they're classist, feudal values connected to toxic masculinity. Still, the concepts of self-sacrifice and persistence are good, right? How do we bring that back without making it so gendered?
Is it the gleefulness that grates? I'm ok with shaming someone for that. For people who can't afford to subscribe, I see it as stealing bread when poor. A poor person would likely share in secret, so 'gleeful sharing' can be a metonymy for sharers who can afford it and so should be shamed. Right?
NEWS UPDATE: We got a new cat! Fin.
We need to make McDowell's a reality. F the golden arches. Bring on the golden arcs.
Ashli Babbitt was shot for endangering the lives of members of Congress. It wasn’t a peaceful bunch of grandmas. It was a violent insurrection.

This touched me. I wish more American Christians would read this. "Why Are So Many Christians So Cruel?" www.nytimes.com/2024/12/22/o...
