These findings echo the debate in adult research raised by Rey-Mermet et al. (2018), suggesting that results based on a single inhibition paradigm cannot be generalised to other paradigms.

We found no support for a unitary inhibition construct. Instead, the stop-signal task (SST) was related to symbolic arithmetic in both 5- and 7-year-olds. In contrast, the flanker task was related to non-symbolic maths, but only in 7-year-olds.

If you think concerns about replicability started in the 2010's, and you don't know this was just a repetition of exactly the same concerns from the 1960's, you are failing to learn from history of science. Dig in: rips-irsp.com/articles/10.... and rips-irsp.com/articles/10....

New research: AI models tend to reflect the political ideologies of their creators
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that I wanted to answer 275 emails per day and argue with administrators. Thatโs why I chose a career in academia.
Many living people carry fragments of Neanderthal DNA, remnants of ancient interbreeding events, with uneven distribution across chromosomes. New work by @sarahtishkoff.bsky.social lab suggests patterns are most consistent with Neanderthal contribution to human populations being highly male biased.๐งช

A common problem w/ studies testing non-WEIRD groups is they compare multiple groups using the same WEIRD measure. How can we compare groups w/ apples-apples measures w/o distorting cross-cultural differences? We explore this in this new paper! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Here you can find the accepted manuscript. We outline how domain-general aspects contribute to carry & borrow effect, how they are shaped by individual differences and heterogeneity of math capabilities and suggest an inverse relation of borrow & carry effects.

A recent study purports to have found that multilingualism protects against accelerated ageing. I've taken a closer look at it, and it doesn't look good.

It reminds me of the question 'who will replicate the replicators?' that people used to ask during the replication crisis. Turns out the answer is: the replicators themselves, after they have gained a decade of expertise on a topic :)
