World Book Day? I have books, though I don't talk about them as much as I should which means nobody buys them, but if you're into classic mysteries or dark fantasy or hopeful horror or fractured folk tales and enjoy illustrated books, I got 'em!

Dungeon Crawl Classics! Itโs a very fun old school revival style game (styled after OD&D). The mechanics are pretty simple, chaotic, and highly deadly

If they gave out superlatives in vet school I would get "Most likely to take their puppy to the ER for a loose baby tooth"
(because that's what I spent my afternoon doing, thought it was fractured. Nope, just hanging on by a thread๐Nearly passed away out of embarrassment when the vet yanked it out)

Digital drawing of Owen and Kenzie from Aud Connelly's Dogwood series. Owen is leaning against Kenzie, who holds his cigarette just out of reach. She faces the viewer, but her eyes are slanted sideways looking at something off screen. Owen is making an annoyed expression, unaware that she's not even paying attention to him.

A landscape art piece featuring part of a large stump covered in buildings and a watchtower. There is a large stag beetle wearing a saddle on the stump. In the distance is a vast field of treetops with tall redwoods reaching above. Art by me
Posting this purely so that people can see the lil stag beetle the people of Home Stump use as transportation
(I hate the way the buildings look but I was getting bored with the piece and am too eepy to try and fix them)

A rudimentary map titled The Heights. The top right corner is orange while the rest of the background is green (it's all treetops. There are major landmarks noted like Kardonak (a small mountain range), Home stump (a massive tree stump), The tower (a crumbling tower of a civilization long forgotten), The Echoes (a large chasm within the treetops), Endok's Rest (the skull of a leviathan), and Farelight (a tall redwood with a platform looping around it)
I've been designing a Wildsea RPG reach as a little treat for myself and of course I had to make a map for it
(yes I should be studying, give a guy a break, I can only look at xrays for so long before my eyes start to glaze over)

This is a fantasy novel about Nil, a several-hundred-year-old Elven assassin in unwilling service to a merciless goddess, pursuing a magical dagger. Itโs a science fiction novel about Sook, whose father rules a corporate empire based on creating hundreds and thousands of clones of her. And itโs a spicy, spicy romance as the two women are drawn to each other.
The pace is breakneck, the world-building a glorious, pyrotechnic mash-up of fantasy and sci-fi elements, with an extra helping of pathos and heart. In all honesty, itโs tongue in cheek and weird as hell, and it shouldnโt work, but the author goes into it so hard that you canโt help but be swept up in it, wondering where on earth itโs going next, and rooting for our two heroines to finally get their freedom. I liked both Nil and Sook immensely.
In short, it was super. Very much looking forward to the conclusion of the story in the next book.
I received an advance review copy for free (thank you to the author!) and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Boom Goes the Bride is a fast, explosive dive into a dystopian world where trillionaires pull the strings and everyone else fights to survive. Sook, daughter of a global power player, is kidnappedโpossibly savedโby the enigmatic shadow Nil, kicking off a highโstakes story where every alliance is questionable and every choice has consequences.
The pacing is relentless: chases, gunfights, explosions, and just a spark of romance to keep things interesting. Despite the action, the characters feel sharp and human, and the worldbuilding lands hard without slowing the momentum.
The bride goes boomโliterally and metaphoricallyโand the cliffhanger ending makes a sequel feel inevitable. A quick, thrilling hit for fans of cyberโfantasy, gritty dystopias, and morally grey heroes.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was given this book complimentary from Book Sirens in e-book form in return for my honest review. Everything stated in this review is of my own opinion and I was not compensated monetarily for providing this review.
A sapphic alternate university fantasy romance that once it gets past it's stuttering start really takes off and engages the reader. Nil is an elven thief enslaved by a goddess and Sook is a corporate princess enslaved to her father and when their paths cross sparks fly, both the romantic type and the high tech firepower chasing the pair.
The author creates a fantastic universe merging Gods, demons and fantastic creatures from an elven universe with futuristic weaponry from a future earth brought together by an event called "the pulse" with destroyed the earth in the process.
The romance is hot and the chemistry between the two main characters is great. The pace of the book is frantic and reminds me in parts of Hunter S. Thompson if we relace the drugs with magic and missiles.
When I started this book I did not think I would like it but after finishing it I find myself looking eagerly forward to #2
Recommended to fans of sci-fi and sapphic romances. Five stars.
The cover of my novel BOOM goes the BRIDE. An elven woman riding a jetbike drops off an asian woman, who is dressed like a greek god. Buildings rise at extreme perspective around them. The word BOOM is in giant yellow letters at the top over a stylized gas giant, followed by a holographic sign on a buildiing saying "goes." The follows as a neon sign jutting from the building, with the "E" out, as if the sign has broken. The word BRIDE flows up an angled platform, with the I being replaced by the asian woman. It is a very energetic scene in lesbian flag colors and blues.
5 stars? How bout FIVE STAR AVERAGE BABY

Text: Falling into you e-reader March 13
the Songs of Broken Bells softcover with a brick background. The picture is overlaid with screenshots from goodread which read
"This book made me cry--and books don't generally make me cry."
"I loved the found family vibe the slow burn romance and the inner struggles everyone faced. "
"It is clear from the first page that the world of this novel is vast, full of carefully built, unique creatures, cultures, and settings. The magic system is also special, with its saints and oerents and Tethers, and Hagiographers, all marking different aspects and ways of handling powers that are often destructive and dangerous, but as always, can be also used for good. We step into a living, breathing universe. I also loved the framing device and the little epigraph-like chapters that helped us step outside of the immediate plot and conflict to hear more from a medley of connecting (or disparate) characters and events. Val'hoon and its nations are diverse and intriguing, and even though we only see small slices of it through the span of the story, and a lot of the time, what we find is scary and pretty dark, I felt at home and ready for adventure."
"This is an easy recommend for folks looking for rich queer-normative worlds with lots of diversity and world-building, cozy-but-not-cozy fantasy (I'll explain what I mean by that in a moment), and lighter romance/friendship subplots that aren't the central focus."
"I liked the grit of the characters' experience. The descriptions of Lรญadan fighting against her power, against the flames rising in her, felt sincere and urgent. I also appreciated the stakes of the story, with multiple injuries which were not graphic but did feel sobering and grounding."
"I liked that the story had darker/serious elements, whilst the cast of characters were wholesome. It made this a comfy read, especially the found family aspect. I wish there were a little more conflict with the characters, but overall I enjoyed their dynamics. I definitely recommend this!"
I have a novelette coming out next month if you haven't heard!
Also Songs of Broken Bells has some really good reviews and I think maybe you should see what all these kind people are talking about for yourself
