A new Times video analysis breaks down the flawed and lethal actions by federal agents in the killing of Alex Pretti. Watch here.

the invaluable @emmadarwinwriter.bsky.social explains the nuts and bolts of writing that many of us who've been working with those nuts and bolts all our lives have never understood (or maybe it's jut me)

Nor me, Becky!
Back in Dublin to celebrate the launch of The Correction of Taste, and learning yet another lesson from my beloved dad: death is no reason to stop publishing.
I so enjoyed this erudite and immersive response to #TheParisExpress.

Hey Toronto, come chat with me on 8 June
I couldn't be happier to be heading to Dublin to see his last book launched. Like Henry James in this beautiful cover design, my father continues to cast a long shadow.
Oh hey, NYT, is it men they want barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen? So hard to determine.....
Flawless script, #TheBalladofWallisIsland made me laugh and cry simultaneously for an hour and a half
The worst poem ever
Okay, here is why I HATE AI. I'm trying to research poems about going into space, or famous quotes about escaping gravity. As the FIRST RESULT, Google gives me this SHITTY poem IT'S WRITTEN ITSELF, like it's fucking Adrian Mole and I'm John Tydeman at the BBC. HATE HATE HATE.

best habit I formed in Covid!
Remember that a character saying something is not exactly the author saying it.
Itβs always bothered me when a character quote is posted like an interview quote. Uh, that was Satan, not Milton.

If your boss or company tells you to do something unethical: don't say yes. Make them write it down.
'Puff' (used for cover quote since the early C.18) is a more honest metaphor that always makes me think of inflating an air mattress by mouth for an unexpected guest.
glorious!
Gislebertus Dream of the Magi 1120-30 Stone Cathedral of Saint-Lazare, Autun "Master Gislebertus was one of the greatest sculptors of the Middle Ages, who inscribed his name on the tympanum of the main portal of the Sainte-Lazare Cathedral at Autun. The majority of the capitals in the interior of the cathedral are also ascribed to him; most of them are on pilasters and therefore remain firmly connected to the surface. His sculptures are some of the most human, touching works that exist in Romanesque sculpture. The original capitals were removed and are on display in the MusΓ©e Rolin near to the Cathedral. The Dream of the Magi, the capital originally on the east side of the north-east crossing pillar, shows the three crowned figures together under a large, round cover. Two of them are still asleep, but the third has already been woken by the movingly gentle touch of the angel who is pointing the star out to him." (WGA)
