Still, fair play to Italy - I'm genuinely pleased for them to have finally broken this hoodoo.
England have won the World Cup, won Grand Slams, beaten everybody in world rugby... it takes incredible talent to find a new achievement for the record books, and he's taken them to new heights. Admittedly they're usually measured as depths but...
Looks like the English rugby team have concluded the only way to improve is by getting Borthwick sacked as quickly as possible
Awful.

The problem with you there, mate, is your tide. You haven't got any.
Ah. Sounds like art, smells like Lynx Africa, eh?
A huge number of vessels in both wars, yes. What's possibly not on many people's radar is how many were sunk by Allied subs. We talk about the Battle of the Atlantic a lot, but relatively little about the Allied Mediterranean operations or blockade of Japan.
I would have been there tomorrow but need to be down here in Yorkshire I"m afraid. Hope you enjoy it!
Eminent enough for me
I don't know about anybody else, but that's my new favourite euphemism for puking up over the side...
It's just like a cruise - BUT WITHOUT THE NOROVIRUS!
anybody?
I'm deeply unhappy with it, but tbh focusing on this one incident misses the wider picture, as does trying to analyse it through a legalistic lens. I'll keep banging this drum, but subs give people the ick - you can tell that because they focus on this and not the 30+ other vessels equally sunk.
It might not be a live firing exercise, but why go to all that hassle of unloading everything? Are they worried somebody is going to cheat and actually launch something?!
It also doesn't stop it being a warship, fwiw.
The Belgrano differs hugely as well, tbh (in location relative to the centre of conflict, in tactical context, in the fact it had escorts etc etc).
I still doubt people would be making as much fuss had it been a missile though, even with the same facts. Subs give people the ick.
Whilst the biggest Abba earworm is Waterloo.
You couldn't escape if you wanted to.
Warwickshire too.
I doubt the pathway to grammar school for talented children without money has become any easier in the intervening decades.
The only bit I'm unclear of is whether the current alternative system of parents paying for their kids to go to better schools by buying property nearby is any better.
I went to one myself and even back then most of the kids getting places had been tutored to pass - over a quarter had gone to just one private prep school! - which made it a de facto (but free) public school with a few lucky oiks like me either managing to slot in or getting bullied remorselessly.
Selective schools, usually by the infamous 11+exam (usually a piece of writing and an easily-coached IQ test, taken in the year before secondary). Marketed as a form of social mobility, but that often resulted in kids that "failed" being segregated in schools that had little ambition for them.
You'd have thought the stern being blown off would have raised some suspicions, tbh.

"Understanding the 3rd Gulf War: edibles or scotch?"
That would be MV Obelix, surely?
And I can't possibly be the only person who immediately checked - yes, it would have been called that, but no, it wasn't purchased.
Amazingly, we're now apparently of an older generation who thought not having to waste lives and ammunition needlessly was the greater flex...
I'm broadly of the opinion that a (un)diplomatic message saying "your ships can intern themselves in a neutral port or we'll sink them" would have been preferable, but some of the takes have been utterly devoid of reality.
And I still think if it had been a missile we'd have heard crickets.
