Working with kids with so called “school refusal” going on, when they are metaphorically being asked to enter a room with a tiger in it and feel comfortable and pay attention. Who’d want to spend time in a room with a tiger? Who’d want to incrementally increase exposure to it? OT: remove the tiger.

Whe I was at school we were taught about “perks” of jobs - one of which could be being provided with a company car. Now an essential requirement on job ads is having a car and full clean drivers licence.
Many self-identifying autistic ppl lack formal diagnosis despite wanting it, & have higher unmet needs, unemployment & distress than many diagnosed ppl (as we found). UK is proposing to narrow diagnosis despite subtyping failures.👇 Rationing healthcare backfires!

I know it goes without saying but schools too. A school I did a consultation with recently told me they can’t support an ADHD kid because they “don’t have the staff”.
More understanding and talk about embodiment is needed if we are going to clarify the risks and benefits of AI. There is no reason in the world that AI should kill OT if we do our jobs properly. But the main threat posed by AI might come from who owns it and how they utilise it to do their bidding.

Yes-creative! I have over 30 years of observing the evolving iterations of DSM 'catagorisation'. The need to classify and box individuals for the ease/ profit of the 'practicioner in control' has outweighed the stigma/harm of the 'deficit based' labelling!$

My 80s were spent with my older brother playing his very 70s Steely Dan records. (Insert “didn’t someone think to contact social services?” joke here.)
BUT! It always bothers me when they try to be spot on accurate. Example of getting it right: Billy Elliot - set in 1984 but soundtracked by…T Rex. And quite rightly so, people were still enjoying T Rex in 1984. Making FGTH the lynchpin of the film would be way too on-the-nose.
But on the evidence base thing, I go to the models we use - won’t list them all, but I’ve found MOHO particularly helpful to put a structure on my clinical reasoning.
Interestingly (or perhaps not, you could say) there’s quite a lot of this that I wouldn’t go along with; modifying behaviour, adherence to rules, handwriting, emphasis on participation in “healthy” activities… 🤔
There is a new autistic barbie out, but no one is talking about her mother, undiagnosed computer engineer barbie about to get the surprise of her life when she starts to argue with the evaluator that these are all normal childhood behaviours that she had when she was the same age.
Oh and I did so because I want the diminishing number of users to be apparent. I suppose it’s so flooded with bots that it makes no difference.
I deleted my entire profile over a year ago now (autumn 2023), but didn’t take any other measures - doubt anyone wants to pretend to be me there but I thought deleting account would be enough?
