The thing that is really grinding my gears this particular evening re Mandelson is thinking of how May Blairs, Browns, Thatchers and Churchills our country has been deprived of in favour of those like Mandelson because it never occurred to them it was an option or they were too busy raising children
According to @transparencyuk.bsky.social, Β£38.6m in UK political donations since 2010 came from unincorporated associations with little to no transparency.
Yesterday, APPG member @philbrickellmp.bsky.social called on the Government to close donation loopholes and safeguard ourΒ democracy π
Some buffet that
On foreign donations into UK politics, this isnβt about one person or one party.
Itβs about preventing a small number of very wealthy and powerful foreign donors from subverting British democracy.
That should be a goal we can all agree with.
UK electoral law is long overdue a drastic update.
Gosh, being overstimulated in an overly heated department store comes round sooner and sooner every year

Loopholes in the law are allowing βdark moneyβ to infiltrate UK politics, with almost Β£1 in every Β£10 donated to parties and politicians coming from unknown or dubious sources, analysis reveals.

If they have one hater, itβs me.

The only bias a democracy should have it towards the voter, the people it is supposed to govern and look out for.
Hereditary peers attempting to justify their role as βdemocraticβ when they are universally recognised as indefensible by parties of all colours is so amusing.
Some may be genuine but the 92 have received influence and a vote for life based entirely on the accident of their birth.
