A quite old red hardback book standing upright on a wooden trolley, with a potted plant behind it. It's a bit dinked at the top, and stained on the spine. The debased gilt text on the spine reads: Stories from the New Yorker 1950-1960, with the New Yorker logo underneath it, a monocled top-hatted gent. The logo is also on the front cover.

An interesting coincidence. This morning I took down from a shelf a book that's been there for a few years: Stories from the New Yorker 1950-1960. I'd decided to do something I'd intended for a while: read it cover to cover, with perhaps a reading thread to accompany it.

Cork City was beautiful as I was on my way to do the post-screening Q&A with French film director Rรฉgis Wargnier after La Rรฉparation at Cork French Film Festival. Someone brought him an (Oscar winning) Indochine movie poster to sign. He had stories to tell and the audience questions were superb. ๐ŸŽฅ

Iโ€™ve been noticing hands in paintings and sculptures, and how different individuals are connected to each other, and in particular how they support each other - so Iโ€™m going to try a thread/ visual essay here as a way to keep track of themโ€ฆ

Finally read โ€˜From Ten Till Duskโ€™ by @cristinleach.bsky.social - a most interesting perspective on Irish art, art writing, & art institutions in Ireland - beautifully designed by Oonagh Young.
