I saw a cybertruck with a (bespoke?) camper top on this morningβs commute. Bad omen.
Wow, this is scummy.

Conservatives spent years complaining about βsafe-spacesβ and βliberal snowflakesβ only to turn around and show they are absolutely terrified of ideas they donβt like (βracism is badβ βgender is fluidβ) and willing to use state power to avoid the slightest discomfort.
The snowiest of flakes.
Iβm a @universityoftexas.bsky.social grad and a UT parent and Iβm pissed.
So much work, performed by so many people, over so many years at UT, will go up in smoke if this plan comes to fruition. For what? Itβs so maddening and self-destructive and, yes, racist. /3
Their reward for all of the planning and work that went into this meaningful, thought-provoking, loving, inspiring symposium was to learn this past week that their department is being all but eliminated (in this context βconsolidatedβ is as close to βkilledβ as it can be.) /2
Crowd shot of ~100 people listening to David Montejano
I attended one of the best symposia Iβve ever been a part of yesterday, honoring David Montejano on the 40th anniversary of his landmark book Anglos and Mexicans in the Making of Texas. It was organized by 3 grad students from the UT Department of Mexican American and Latino Studies /1
One of my students just showed up to a meeting with the university's special collections librarian wearing a replica of this shirt. I'm so proud.
@janneken.org I knew it!
I loved that chapter!
Iβm looking forward to this symposium honoring my Ph.D. advisor David Montejano and his field-shaping work.

π is right. But I have to imagine that at least some of this is payback for the American Studies grad students calling their intramural softball team American Studs in the 1990s.
They're making films, chapbooks, and zines, and one student is writing and performing a corrido about the Plan de San Diego.
I'm still flying from my office hours last week in which students pitched their ideas for un-essay assignments in my Conspiracies and Conspiracy Theories in US History class. Their creativity is off the charts.
Is Mitch standing on a chair in this photo?
*second-best (after Trials of Van Occupanther) imo, but still great
Reupping this recommendation. Every word in it is true.

My brother had a friend at Carolina from Scotland. He said you havenβt lived until youβve heard a Scot say βGastonia.β
Go Heels.
I thought he was going to release an interview with Kawhiβs Uncle Dennis saying βI donβt know, I just reached into my pocket, found three twenties and a ten,β but youβre right, this was a million times better.
This made me laugh harder than anything else I read this week. It's a good thing I wasn't prepping for this procedure yesterday.

Important announcement: FUBAR is in the wordle word list.
The Trump adminβs whole case regarding Haitians in Ohio is racism, xenophobia, and lies. Thereβs literally nothing else to it.
Legal status, proper papers. No criminal record. Employers, neighbors, local leaders say theyβre a benefit to the community.
Itβs showy, bigoted cruelty, nothing more.
