In Texas, my 5 year old receives school autism-informed social skills instruction and speech therapy services with a label of “Non-Categorical Early Childhood (NCEC).” Texas families still use a lot of school based supports instead of having any standard diagnostic screening thru our pediatrician.

No, Northern California houses don’t have porches. Also birds stuck mostly to the river & less in residential areas.

I owe a lot to games like Elder Scrolls Online & Minecraft these days. 🤣

It’s not all bad now. I work making entertainment video games more accessible for disabled gamers, so I get to make people’s lives better in a different but still meaningful way.

It is slow though because all my academic papers and grants got rejected if I countered prevailing theories, and eventually I had to quit academia.

We have had decades to research supports (instead of cures) and have overwhelmingly chose not to as a society.

The history of science and medicine is pretty grim. Science is supposed to be self-correcting and reject failed theories along the way.

We knew back in 2012 that all this was a house of cards built on a shaky foundation of poor group matching comparisons, and all my dissertation work lined up with Dr. Gernsbacher’s criticisms once I controlled for basic language abilities... pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

In my academic research, every theory of mind test I ever used was correlated with basic language skills. They are all just language based tests. Even labeling complex emotion expressions from the eyes relies on learning the vocabulary words being tested.

Parents: Don't Hide Your Children's Autism Diagnosis From Them — THINKING PERSON'S GUIDE TO AUTISM since I didn’t know about my autism diagnosis, I just assumed there was something wrong with me and that I deserved what I got.

Parents, pls tell your autistic kids they are autistic: "You may think that an autistic child won’t notice they are different than their non-autistic peers; I have not met one autistic person (me included) who hasn’t noticed their difference early in life."

Helpful reports are what’s actually happening where you are: hail size, wind damage, tornadoes, flooding. Calling to interpret radar just ties up phone lines during active weather.

I also work really hard to find the root of the problems and cut thru the noise. There is so much noise in any feedback signal. The feedback just looks bad when it’s the quality of analysis and interpretation that makes it worthwhile.

Social media echo chambers are a huge problem. You can see it in survey data if you survey players who do or don’t live in the echo chamber. We have to design by iterative playtesting & finding the root of the problem, rather than reacting to who screams the loudest online.

In 2019, I created #WhatAGameDevLooksLike after I was stopped by security 3(!!) times while picking up my speaker badge. I’m a small Asian woman with pink hair, and I guess I didn’t visually meet their expectations of a speaker.

Ironically, I was at GDC to speak about inclusive studio cultures. 🫠

This is part of why I’m digital o my & stopped getting them. The shopping coordination is so difficult to get right.

A black cat perched on an Anna’s arm as Anna lays on a bed. The cat looks annoyed and has her claws in Annas arm, kneading but looking mad about it. Onyx has a cute little pink flowery collar and paw print on a silver tag.

When Light turns to wrath, only ashes will remain.

Arator, son of Light and Void, must find the balance between both before it’s too late 🌑

Preparing for the next WOW expansion, I unlearned Jewelcrafting (that I've had since Burning Crusade) to pick up Herbalism. I'm just not utilizing crafting professions enough for it to be worth having. Sunk cost fallacy hurts my soul but I have to let it go. 😭

This belief is wrong for anyone who pays attention better while moving and looking elsewhere. But it is considered offensive to someone speaking, and thus a behavior that is viewed as harmful in the context of that belief. Fixing this requires shifting beliefs about what “attention” means.

25.02.2026 18:00 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

There is a neurotypical cultural belief that paying attention is only possible if you are still as a statue while also staring intently at the object or person you are focusing on. Movement or lack of eye contact is interpreted as ignoring the object or person.

Accessibility: Yellow, Purple and the Myth of “Accessibility Limits Color Palettes”

I won't have time to debunk the old "yellow is not accessible" myth in my axe-con talk.
But, you are lucky: I already wrote a whole article on how accessibility does NOT limit color choices.
