My group at UNH will be at the upcoming APS #DFD2025 meeting, presenting on a range of topics from water surface signatures of subsurface processes, to disease transmission in seagrass. Looking forward to connecting with the fluids community!
Oh man, nightmares but also such a fun representation of the #flumelife
Hello! Could you help me advertise this PhD position on seagrass physiology and conservation? Thanks
Hey fluids friends, we're recruiting in my department this year!
Congrats to David!!

#OSM26 session alert!
We're excited to invite abstract submissions for our session titled "Vegetation-Hydrodynamic Interactions in Coastal Environments."
π Abstract submission: agu.confex.com/agu/osm26/pr...
π Abstract Deadline: 20 August 2025
π OSM 2026: Glasgow, Scotland, 22-27 February 2026
π£ Open PhD and postdoc positions in my Living, Fluid, & Soft Matter group. These new researchers will work in my ERC StG project SWARM. Application deadline 3.8.2025. See links and details in the comments below.
So glad to see this tradition still going strong!!
His analysis proposes a novel way of thinking about the physics in this important region of turbulent flows, with implications for entrainment dynamics, as well as design of experiments and reduced-order models.
This work comprises the 2nd chapter of Zeeshan Saeed's PhD dissertation at UNH!
Congrats to Zeeshan on the publication of this paper in JoT! π Zeeshan showed that the physical thickness of a portion of the turbulent/non-turbulent interface is well described by a combination of the Kolmogorov and Taylor scales.

Congratulations!!! π β€οΈ This is so massively well deserved. Thank you for being a continual inspiration and role model to me for the past almost 15 years(?!!).

500 Women Scientists logo "Science is under attack. We must fight back. Our lives depend on it" What does NSF do? the National Science Foundation Created by Congress in 1950 as an independent agency to support the US scientific enterprise 93% of $9.06 billion budget went to grants & awards (FY24) NSF supports 353,000 scientist, engineers & students across all 50 state and territories (FY 24) NSF funds $1.4 billion in STEM education (FY 24) NSF has funded 248 Nobel Prize winners source: nsf-gov.resources.nsf.gov/
nearly 11% of the NSF workforce was fired today.
this WILL slow scientific progress.
this is hurting families.
we need to educate folks about all the GOOD that the gov't can do! To help @500womensci.bsky.social has made social media cards for what #NSF funds in each state: bit.ly/NSF_bystate
Massively grateful that we have you as an advocate for the APS community!
New paper alert! β οΈ This was some very fun work done with my colleague Dr. Longhuan Zhu at UNH. We explored how plant motion affects light exposure in seagrass meadows. Now published in #aslo_lo! @aslo.org doi.org/10.1002/lno....
Summer 2025 REU Opportunity! βοΈππ±πͺΈ I am looking for an REU student this summer to work on an NSF-funded project exploring the physics of disease spread in seagrass and corals. Applications due Feb 3! eos.unh.edu/opportunitie...
Congratulations!!! π
Thank you!! And so are you!!!
Updated to *3* CEPS professors! Incredibly excited and honored to lead this project studying the physical mechanisms that drive marine disease transmission in seagrass and coral ecosystems www.unh.edu/unhtoday/202...
I downloaded Signal at some point but it hasn't caught on much in my experience...
Don't be afraid to make mistakes AND don't be afraid to ask for help! When I started 5 yrs ago, I often felt like everyone was busy and I didn't want to bother senior colleagues with questions. I could have saved so much time/energy if I just asked questions and admitted that I didn't know things.
Oh no, I'm so sad I missed this because it looks so cool!
Yeah, that's understandable. Probably very dependent on size/scale of the colleges and different dynamics if it's a new transition vs. long-standing setup.
I'm in the "College of Engineering & Physical Sciences" at UNH and I think it works really well. Fewer barriers between those of us in engineering departments and math/physics, which makes collaboration easier, easier for students to switch majors within the college, etc. I have no complaints!
Would love to be added too!
Betty looks SO polite!
