Human rights court orders reparations for forced sterilisation case in Peru
Inter-American Court of Human Rights says Peru must pay family of woman who died as a result of forced sterilisation.
"As many as 314,000 women and 24,000 men were sterilised against their will in Peru under Fujimoriβs government, which sought to forcibly lower the birth rate ...
The procedures were particularly invasive for the women involved, and some suffered long-term complications, including death.

We show who we are as a nation through our Constitution.
When the Constitution is threatened or damaged by the Executive, the remedy for restoration is impeachment. Powers are defined for Congress to bridle the Executive, too, for example.

This is a good thread. The context is relevant for professionals who work in tech. But I think there are some interesting things here for anybody who's trying to wrap their heads around "videcoding" and what the actual impact is.
Not sure everything here resonates with me. But good analysis.

Americans are being targeted by their entire ruling class, which has drifted so far toward the Dark Triad that it now blends into diseased elites all over the world.
Civilization as we know it is collateral damage to their schemes and they *expect* demographic collapse from wrecking the Holocene.

A tweet from Senate Gabe asks about frequent job report discussions. Below, Justin Wolfers tweet explains that negative job report revisions mean there never were labor market improvements, showing a chart with revised payroll estimates.
A tweet by Justin Wolfers shows a chart of total U.S. jobs declining after a marked Liberation Day and states: payrolls fell by 92k, unemployment rose to 4.4%, and recession concerns have returned.
A tweet thread discusses job additions reported by the Trump Administration, noting adjustments to previous months and stressing the need to verify reports. A linked article about job gains after a shutdown is included.

Trump, Markets, And βTACOβ: Why The Usual Warning Signal May Fail In Iran, Warns Justin Wolfers
What happens when the U.S. starts a warβand the biggest economic pain lands somewhere else?
Financial markets are a real-time forecasting machine: billions of dollars placed on bets about theβ¦
Here's what worries me. The U.S. is less oil-dependent than our peers, and so Wall Street has responded far less to the war in Iran than financial markets abroad. When the country calling the shots feels only a small share of the pain, that's a dangerous asymmetry.

Text: βDemocrats Get Lowest Rating From Voters in 35 Years
Republicans are seen as better at handling most issues that decide elections despite respondents' unease with President Trump over the economy, tariffs and foreign policy.β
A chart showing net favorably over time. The Democrats are very underwater.
The only issues on which voters prefer congressional Democrats to Republicans, among the 10 tested in the Journal survey, are healthcare and vaccine policy.
"The Democratic brand is so bad that they don't have the credibility to be a critic of Trump or the Republican Party," said John Anzalone, a Democratic pollster who worked on the Journal survey with Republican Tony Fabrizio. "Until they reconnect with real voters and working people on who they're for and what their economic message is, they're going to have problems."
Seems like Dems might need a change in tactics β quickly. Less Chuck Schumer and Amy Klobuchar, more Zohran Mamdani and AOC.

Iran Strikes Gulf Water Infrastructure, Escalating Regional Water Security Fears | Ukraine news - #Mezha
As oil markets fluctuate and shipping routes face disruption, the Gulf's freshwater lifelines emerge as a strategic battleground. Desalination plants power major cities, making water security a potent...
The Gulf states β Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman β have very limited fresh water resources. Hundreds of desalination plants turning seawater into drinking water help make existence of modern states in this part of the world possible.
