Start early. Like, 6:30AM early. The sand radiates heat and by 11AM it’s 90° and rising from below you.

Ok, last photo from the Ruby Crest Trail in Nevada. This beautiful lake is Overland Lake. It is a glacial tarn which was formed when a glacier hollowed out a bowl in the side of the mountain. Such a beautiful area 🦋

A white waterfall has but a vertical channel down through a tan colored sandstone cliff.
For #WaterfallWednesday here is Dear Creek Falls in Grand Canyon.
For geologists, you can see the creek has almost finished cutting through the Tapeats sandstone that overlies the Vishnu schist at the Great Unconformity.

Here's a photo from forever ago. This lunar eclipse or blood moon was a great chance to capture the iconic Shiprock formation in New Mexico. I remember returning from this outing (a long early drive at 3 AM) to find IG flooded with fake blood moon composites. It motivated me to write A LOT.
