The hard truth is- if money changed hands *at all*, from a shelter, breeder, adoption agency, be it pet or human, you didn't "adopt" anything- you *bought* it.

And both "pet rescue moms" and adoptive "parents" HATE that point, because it steals their saviour status. Their defensiveness says it all.

"Oh but what else are they supposed to say?"

If money changes hands you say "buy". Call it what it is and suddenly it doesn't seem so altruistic, does it?

I've been in animal rescue since 1993 and if I can manage to not use the word "adopt" so can you.

You just don't care enough not to.
