Trust me, the bike path is salted. The problem is that salt cannot cope with the amount of snow we got today. It was at least 10 cm / 4 in over a few hours. I havenβt seen this much snow in years.

There we go, just a small adjustment to make the bend tighter for the roadway. Same number of parking spots but much straighter bike lanes and ever so slightly more greenery.
No, like I mentioned in my original comment, you draw the bike lanes straight first and fit the roadway between them in the remaining available space.
There is indeed not a lot of slack in the cross section but the roadway could have been bendier to accommodate for the bike paths being straighter rather than the other way around. Thatβs my point.
In the Netherlands, pavements and bike paths are drawn first, and theyβre drawn straight, letting greenery, street furniture, and motor vehicles compete for the remaining space.
While this is obviously great by international standards, you can clearly tell that the roadway and parking spots were drawn first and the bike paths, greenery, & pavements were secondary considerations. That spot where the two hi-vizes stand has a particularly nasty kink for no good reason really.
