Stand with Minnesota

Mosaic monarch butterfly with a red heart center LOVE & PROTECT - Stand With Minnesota Minnesota Immigrant NEIGHBORS Stand with Minnesota

Orange background:
When A Home Is Not A Home
My child is a home that keeps changing shape.
When they were seven, watching the news, Seeing Brown children in cages, my child turned to me and asked
if men in uniform would come take them away, take their grandma away,
to somewhere they don't know and know no one, even though nothing wrong was done.
I remember all the times my parents held me while they trembled with a fear they told me about but that I didn't comprehend -
I was already lost to the music from the radio, books in the library,
the bright boxes in the toy aisle in this America, where I was not born but was all I knew.
My mom asked me what I wanted and I said I just
want
A safe place to raise my child and she laughed and said in Vietnamese:
No place is safe.
(When you become a parent everyone drives too fast
Got too many guns
Doesn't speak enough languages)
When I am away from my child
even if the distance is not as great as an ocean, or
visa,
or a horizon of iron bars,
I feel a pain that I have no words for,
β€’ and words
are all l have.
I used to think my child changed shape because all life is trouble,
but really, they change because they need to house
what is inside them.
I hope no one ever takes that from them, no matter what they do.
This world is bigger than any one of us.
Why do we keep making home
smaller for one another?
Born in a war, I am made of what I know and what I can't know but that weighs me down, all of it moving with me from place to place, across borders made of law, of nature, of fear, of race, of money.
How many times in this life Will we stand who knows where
Wondering who
Will take us from home?

Went to hang with the hippies of Powderhorn. Super cool human mosaic, holding cards to aerial shot .

The orange card has a beautiful poem from Bao Phi

90% of evictions in MN are for nonpayment of rent. I did a sample a week ago and found the avg nonpayment eviction in Hennepin County would take $5,122 to stop. Studies (before the high inflation of the past few years) suggest stopping an eviction saves $6,832 in public costs. It just makes sense

A beautiful homemade flan

One of the moms of the families I’ve been delivering groceries to asked today if I’d be willing to accept something from her. And she came back with this beautiful flan she’d made to say thank you for helping us. I am crying. People are too kind. This is whom our government is forcing into hiding.

Here’s the thing: a President openly contemptuous of Congress & willing, unilaterally, to recklessly and illegally commit the US to wars of aggression is an existential threat to the Republic, *regardless* of whether he can ultimately explain his acts to Congress.

The demand must be impeachment.

Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

A Complimentary Profile Of Jason Lee That Was Surprisingly Difficult To Publish | Defector If you walked down Colorado Boulevard in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles at some point in the past three years, you might have noticed a modest, pueblo-style beige building with β€œPHOTO” pai...

As someone who has seen Mallrats more times than I care to admit, this is a fascinating profile that has a couple twists along the way. Crazy how even mentioning the word "Scientology" to a former Scientologist provokes a Pavlovian response of hostility and near-immediate legal action.

We who are working our asses off to keep our neighbors housed and fed are making amazing things happen with mutual aid, but we shouldn’t have to be left to be doing this on our own!

And to be clear, everyone was very aware that this was illegal, but Trump officials and DOGE didi it anyway. Multiple IRS acting commissioners were removed when they raised concerns. Pretty much the entire C-suite resigned. From last year: donmoynihan.substack.com/p/this-tax-d...

If you have the means, please donate to the Trans Continental Pipeline right now. They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate and they are overwhelmed with requests. Colorado borders Kansas, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.

Living in Minnesota is exhausting right now, because we’re being punished for somehow being both compassionate and successful.

I don’t even know if people who don’t live here can understand any of this.

The fact that there’s a secret network of doulas going around Minneapolis to help with home births for parents afraid of ICE should be front-page news.

These children, born in secrecy, are American citizens.

Federal judge dismisses gun charge after U.S. Attorney can't get case to trial on time Tavon Timberlake exercised his right to a speedy trial, which U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen's office couldn't fulfill in part because of staffing challenges.

Operation Metro Surge has successfully dismantled the US Attorney's Office in Minnesota. But it was worth it, because think of all the people they murdered, bus stops they raided, as well as children and grandmas they locked up.
