In 2024, my household obtained the dubious distinction (according to our Sainsbury’s Nectar supermarket points card) of being the #1 buyer of ‘The Jolly Hog Little Porker Chipolatas’ in Sheffield. This is our achievement from 2025.

New paper out on #IndoorAirPollution, demonstrating that indoor PM2.5 concentrations (small particles that we can breathe in and that can harm health) are higher in homes in deprived areas, often exceeding WHO 24-hour limits

Air pollution must be recognised as a public health issue.

Our report 'A breath of fresh air' highlights evidence on the increased range of health impacts linked to air pollution.

The government needs to treat #airpollution as a serious & preventable health risk.

Paper title: Improving hospitality venue ventilation via behavioural change as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Highlights: 1) Ventilation of small-scale hospitality venues was below recommended standards; 2) Better ventilation barriers included limited guidance, funding, and venue ownership; 3) Motivations towards customer satisfaction conflicted with improving ventilation; 4) Introduction of new guidance increased ventilation actions in 3 of 6 venues; 5) Short-term CO2 monitoring helped to inform venue owners of ventilation performance

Our interdisciplinary paper on improving ventilation in the hospitality sector is now online! We found that a lack of guidance + conflicting priorities were key barriers to ventilation, and examine the effectiveness/acceptability of a motivational + guidance intervention. doi.org/10.1016/j.in...

Screen shot of the abstract and public significance statement. The abstract reads as follows: Confronting prejudice is a promising strategy for reducing intergroup bias. The current meta-analysis
estimated the effects of confronting prejudice on intergroup bias in the confronted person and examined the
impact of potential moderators. Eligible studies measured intergroup bias in participants confronted versus
not confronted for intergroup bias. A three-level mixed-effects analysis on 91 effect sizes found a
significant, medium-sized effect of confronting prejudice on reducing intergroup bias (g+ = 0.54). There
was only limited evidence of publication bias. Confrontation was differentially effective at reducing
different types of intergroup bias with a medium-to-large effect on using or endorsing stereotypes, small-tomedium
effects on behavior and behavioral intentions, and no significant effects on cognitive prejudice.
Effects were otherwise largely robust to differences in confrontation, sample, and study design
characteristics. Yet, studies predominantly focused on whether confronting the use of stereotypes reduced
subsequent use of stereotypes in artificial settings, and primarily sampled U.S.-based, young, White adults,
making it difficult to generalize effects to other forms of intergroup bias and populations, particularly in realworld
settings. Studies also tended to measure intergroup bias immediately after confrontation, so the
duration of effects over longer periods is less clear. To better evaluate the potential of confrontation as a
prejudice reduction technique, future research should examine whether confronting prejudice reduces
different forms of intergroup bias in more diverse participant samples and settings, over longer periods, and
further test theoretical mediators of these effects.

Really pleased that our meta-analysis on prejudice confrontation (with @lilitou.bsky.social) has now been published in Psychological Bulletin. We find that confronting prejudice is an effective bias reduction technique (but there is more research to be done!): doi.org/10.1037/bul0...

Fun fact: if you're buying from a creator on etsy, you can reduce their etsy selling fees from 6.5% to 2.5% by ordering via 'shopname.etsy.com' instead of 'etsy.com/shopname' or searching from the main site. It costs you the same but the creator makes more
