On Saturday I was cycling through Dutch Limburg when I came across this memorial at Wanssum, the lonely Tommies guarding the river.
The Imperial War Museums archive holds several photos from this area.

Napoleon is marching north through the mountains.
He knows he cannot defeat the army.
He has to win it.

Napoleon lands in France on 1 March 1815 and sets Europe in motion one last time.
The “Hundred Days” start. Even if it weren’t actually 100 at all.
