Dear members of the Columbia community: This morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security entered a Columbia Residential building and detained a student. We are working to gather more information, working to reach the family, and providing legal support. Our understanding at this time is that the federal agents made misrepresentations to gain entry to the building to search for a "missing person." We are working to gather more details. It is important to reiterate that all law enforcement agents must have a judicial warrant or judicial subpoena to access non-public areas of the University, including housing, classrooms, and areas requiring CUID swipe access. An administrative warrant is not sufficient. If law enforcement agents seek entry to non-public areas of the University, ask the agents to wait to enter any non-public areas until contacting Public Safety. Public Safety will contact the Office of the General Counsel to coordinate the University's response. Do not allow them to enter or accept service of a warrant or subpoena. We will update our community as additional information becomes available.
Columbia University President Claire Shipman sent an email to the C.U. community a couple of hours ago, saying that DHS agents detained a Columbia student in university housing this morning after apparently misrepresenting themselves to gain entry.
It’s the worst!
I think that people should read Bright's thread because there are a number of good points made. We're not all going to agree on each point but it's good & essential to have an ongoing discussion about these matters. These conversations usually happen within organizations.
Is anyone keeping track of the hundreds or thousands of policy & legal repairs & reversals that will be needed once this regime is out of power? Project 2028, if you will?
By the end of his term Zohran will have built enough media clips to create his own Busy Town franchise, except where he plays all the parts. Zohran Mamdani’s Busy Town. I swear he does forty things a day
You: *settles into seat, opens the program for OH MARY*
Slip of paper falls out
You: picks up, peers at it, reads slowly aloud: “The role of Mary Todd Lincoln will be played tonight by Zohran Mamdani”
I got married at the City Clerk’s office and it was wonderful!
This is the correct stance and everything else is useless fluttering
This whole thread (from a didn’t-used-to-be-immigration lawyer in Minnesota) is worth reading, but I’m specifically sharing the posts surrounding the one for my many health folks.
This is what the resistance against ICE is fighting to save people from.
Immigration attorney lets us know what's going on in Minnesota. Grim, indeed. Thread!
To everyone thanking me, much appreciated but not why I posted! Pls support your local immigrant defense group like:

Or my hometown LUCE: www.lucemass.org/donate
Or Google your city/state & “immigrant defense” to find your local heroes!
People can have different political opinions about immigration policy. Political differences are fine, healthy for a democracy.
But if you’re okay with this, that’s not a political opinion. That is a moral failing.

These are the conditions under which the Trump regime wants to detain noncitizens indefinitely. It violates international law, the Eighth Amendment, and our own laws & regulations.
And the DOJ and DHS are willing to manipulate any law, defy any court order, to keep doing so.

If USAID can be dismantled with this level of awful consequences, surely we can dismantle ICE.
Shortly after the law enforcement investigation into Jeffrey Epstein became public in the mid-2000s, Donald Trump called the Palm Beach, Florida, Police Department to express gratitude, according to a newly released document. “Thank goodness you’re stopping him,” Trump said, according to the document. “Everyone has known he’s been doing this.
Lmao come on man. This is B tier Columbo villain stuff
I cannot give enough kudos to the We Rate Dogs account for their clear explanation of this issue and for using their *enormous* platform to educate people.
I just want you to come back! (And be happy)
The idea of a bill rendering people deportable for following religious law should make every Jew ill
People keep complaining about the red hats because they’re not “real” protest but that lady has raised and donated over $600,000 to her neighbors in MN *and* is the the daughter of a refugee from Egypt. Vice President JD Vance gets roundly booed at the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics. "Those are a lot of boos for him, whistling jeering," says the presenter. US athletes receive a warm welcome from fans, though.
I mean, I’d try to talk to you. Except I would respect the headphone barrier!
