Looking forward to seeing you there!
I will be attending the @americansoccerinsights.com this weekend and bringing a group of Tulane Sports Analytics Club students along with me. If you're there and want to chat, drop me a DM!
Well deserved!
Noticed this again when watching the match against Arsenal today π
This plot from the paper that Joris linked jumped out at me immediately.
Anyone who's done any football analytics work is very familiar with the 'Messi zone,' and this paper is no different.
I will be attending the American Soccer Insights Summit this upcoming weekend at Rice University! If anyone else will be there and wants to meet up, send me a DM!

These are some of my favourite "tricks" that I've picked up over the last few years that have been particularly useful in soccer analytics.
Would definitely be an interesting case study, as there havenβt been many players who developed in Europe as a youngster, moved to the MLS as they entered their formative years, and then went back to Europe for their prime.

Scouting: Ahmetcan Kaplan
The young Turkish center back had a rough start to life at Ajax, missing over a year with damage to his lateral and cruciate ligament.
This season, he's returned from injury and is putting in some quality performances that clubs around Europe will be looking at.
I cannot wait to watch Kelly NβMai absolutely skin Kyle Walker
You know ball
Simply some of the best free football analysis you can get. I would highly suggest subscribing
It was refreshing to read a piece about a sporting director instead of the usual bits on players and coaches. Billy's thoughts at the beginning about how the identity of the club should drive everything, including coaches, signings, and tactics was really insightful and topical.
Congratulations, Ben! Very well deserved
Watching the City v Liverpool highlights with my roommate (he didnβt watch it live) and the physical differences between these two teams is very noticeable.
Any time City lose the ball, Liverpool attack the space at pace and the City players look like they are tracking back in slow motion
Agreed. I think the problem is that Pepβs teams were so good at breaking down teams when they were open (touchline wingers and brilliant passing), but now they canβt do that since almost every team plays against them in a low block. Their (healthy) personnel are not the best at breaking low blocke
And less than 3 minutes later, both of West Hamβs fullbacks have scored and itβs 4-2 before forty minutes!
What on Earth am I watching in this Arsenal game right nowβοΈ
Goes to show how important Γdegaard is to this team. They look completely different than they did two to three weeks ago

It feels like 2012 again
Fotmob only has us at 2.90 xG for that match, but it easily couldβve been 4.0+ if someone got on the end of any of the loose chances in the box that Sancho, Nkunku, Felix, and Chukwuemeka were providing.
Thought it was a particularly poor performance from Guiu. The opportunities were there.
Finally someone gets on the end of one of Jadon Sanchoβs balls across the middle of the box
Disasi and Badiashille are both laughably bad on the ball. Low ceiling players due to their technical deficiencies.
The difference in on-ball ability between them and Tosin/Colwill/Fofana is massive
Although slamming the penalty wide is not ideal
Bradley tackles Mbappe, Luis Diaz wiggles his way out of trouble and plays a brilliant trivela trough ball to Salah, who carries half the length of the pitch, turns Mendy inside out, and wins a penalty
Phenomenal football from Liverpool.
