I'm sure there is a great "The Aristocrats" joke waiting to be made.

Do we just want to play contests? If society grows past war will chess change?

My conspiratory mind wonders if the games were developed this way on purpose.
Like what if chess encourages warfare. The marketers of chess encourage warfare? What was the motivation to develop chess? Are we raising commanders on purpose? Are the nonconquest parts of games bad on purpose?

Why is conquest the funnest way to play a strategy game?
Is it just me? The diplomacy or other victory conditions just aren't as fun(E.g. Sid Meier's Civilization).

Is conquest in all games? Chess is warfare. Face cards have swords and/or axes.
I like the flashy spaceship combat but is this nature?
