I put up the code on github.com/sfmlab/mole2d for anyone wanting to test it. It's full f bugs, but works if you just need to draw a molecule here and there. :) And I'm working on making it much better (and part of a bigger suite)
Took me one day. Not perfect. But draw, exports PNG/SVG, looks a bit funky sometimes. Pulls data from PubChem and RDKIt if installed, so can in extension be used for more stuff. Does 90% of what I need ChemDraw for..
The trick is to use Gemini/Clause to outline it, then use VS Code with Github Copilot/Chat, you can get educational free credits which lasts a bit (I decided to pay for a year). But it's here it really starts making apps. Not just code that needs to be fixed over and over!
But in principle, a chem/mol-drawing software is just a vector draing program with specific constraints so....
I'm still working on it, aand expanding to more document managing + "ChemDraw" clone put plan is to put online both for people to run on their own as well as on servers (servers are cheap now, and user reg anything can be done via google etc). I was just surprised how easy it was!
Is anyone using GitHub/CoPilot to develop chem-based apps? I'm not decidedly pro or anti AI, but we lost license to ChemDraw and it took me less than a day using Github with GPT model to create a ChemDraw clone that serves 99% of my purpose. It writes, tests, and corrects the code autonomously....

Love this instruction on how to make soup from your smoothie. 1. Open bottle. 2. Pour in bowl.
Being an assoc. prof takes a piece of your family you never get back. And it takes a piece of your mental health I'm not sure I can afford.
Just wrote an email basically asking to be depromoted. Fighting all my life to get where I am. Not sure how to feel.
New UV/Vis from Ocean Optics arrived today. It really lives up to the compact product name. Oo Will ultimately be setup for in-line flow measurements for adsorption and continous flow synthesis. π£
I think we should normalize a 10-year productivity drop after becoming a parent. I barely keep my head above water and it's all thanks to my fantastic partner who does most of the heavy lifting.
Indole.
This even managed to trickle down to Danish newspapers announcing it as a big new water harvesting appaeatus...
Whya are IDEX fittings etc so expensive? I know it's PEEK but still. Buying regular stuff, some connectors, a check valve and then BOOM 10K EUR.... :,(
Yes. I would love some chem-themed art! Our dept. is in a new building, and it is overall very artless. :(
I got a new office. Quite big. What should I get? Bean bag? Large banana plant? Pinball machine? Something else? And how do I justify it on my uni. card?
I have not been active on Bluesky for quite some time, but I think it's time to come back. Hopefully the #chemsky community still is alive and kicking. :)
This summer, the 46th ICCC will take place in Denmark. As part of the conf., @carolhua.bsky.social and I are org. a symposium on chemical sensing using inorg. and hybrid materials (inc. MOFs). We would be happy to see contrib. from researchers at all stages of their careers.
Please share!

ICCC is coming to Denmark. The lineup looks great already. And I've heard rumours there will be a symposia on chemical sensing using hybrid materials, anyone who comes (to the symposia) will get a free tour at the sausage museum at Den SmaglΓΈse! #iccc2026
My tutorial review on single crystal diffraction analysis is now online @crystengcomm.rsc.org! Students, supervisors, and reviewers: Please consider this thought-provoking read to discover many facets of the crystallographic practice that are often overlooked or misunderstood π #crystallography
PD Alert! π’ We're hiring a 2-yr fully funded postdoc in automated MOF synthesis at DTU in Copenhagen! π©π°
You'll help build our new lab and join a fun, collaborative team of chemists, engineers & physicists. #chemsky

Dear #MOF #COF community, please consider interacting with the posters you see under the hashtag #MOFSchool2025 ππ» These scholars are looking forward to connecting and discussing with you and you can make an important difference for their experience as remote attendees! #PorMatSky
Due to some unforeseen consequences, we have an immediate opening for a 2-year PD position on the automation of MOF thin-film synthesis at Technical University of Denmark. There will be an official opening soon, but anyone who is interested an reach out to me directly already now. #chemsky
Didn't know this, but might explain why our uni doesn't provide a site license anymore.... I switched to MarvinSketch.
Sadly, Journal accounts have flooded #chemsky, likely causing the noticeable drop in human posts. Please try consciously to keep this place alive by muting all the paper bots and re-engage with the scientist's posts here. It would be a pity if chemsky was lost.

Our group currently collaborates over Teams, which is ok but not great. Are there any, prefferably open source, alternatives? We need chat, files sharing (>200 gb), notes (OneNote similar). Possibility to co-write/collaborate on docs would be great (which Teams suck for when someone is on Linux...)
