Yeah I remember Big Data. I reached into the datalake and pulled out a sword. I found a wild Hadoop and beheaded it in one clean blow. But nobody cares about homeless veterans

cruise ships also solve the adjacent problem of housing for low paid workers needed to do all of the work, and visas that would never be granted to live on land. the tackiness is an inherent result of the existence of these behemoths resulting purely from regulatory capture and not a sane system.
my blackpill on this is that ships like this wouldn't exist if it were feasible to build much of anything on land near major population centers. NIMBY's literally pushed the demand for theme parks, hotels, and tacky buffet restaurants out into the ocean. NYC builds only one new hotel per year now.

In the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Philip K. Dick imagined a world filled with "kipple" -- the detritus of rampant consumerism, just broken down bits of junk and trash all over the place -- and that's what I feel like Amazon is full of.
it's funny how duckduckgo REALLY hasn't gotten any better, but the barriers to using it have dropped since google has gotten worse
