But the moment this stops being fun—the moment I’m thinking more about units sold and royalty advances and distribution and so forth—is the moment I quit this and go back to being strictly a hobbyist.
The business side of this must never diminish my fundamental love for playing TTRPGs.

After 10 years of interviews with game designer, I feel like this is a general thing. Not universal, but I‘d say about half our interviews revealed an author‘s commentary track about their game that made me realize just reading and playing it didn’t give me the full picture 😄

Eins sitzt hinter einem Schreibtisch und trinkt Kaffee. Es ist sehr groß, petrolfarben, hat drei Augen und kleine Hörner. Es trägt eine Fedora und einen Trenchcoat über einem Hemd mit Krawatte. Research it and you’ll see that the number of companies that actively supported/endorsed the Nazi party & where betrayed/destroyed by them is substantial. Have there been war profiteers that came out better? Sure! Is betting you’ll be one of them hubris? Yes, AND you’re on the wrong side of history.

If you look at Germany in the 1930s, it’s—historically speaking—not that surprising. Or, put another way, one might think that the current tech oligarchy might have learned from history that this isn’t a winning move, but it’s almost like they think they know better 🤷
And so I'd say that's my design goals met! I'm excited to see what people do in the writing contest—there's a lot of space to expand the Struggles concept to be more than just combat, but also other types of epic encounter (that's why I called them "struggles" and not something with "combat" in it).
