Renaissance and early modern material culture. Writing on skin, dogs with earrings, and some of the other more surprising oddities of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Europe. All posts my own personal views.
Thank you so much for an amazing day!
I didn't know about Marasol Escobar and her work before, so this remarkable exhibition at the @louisianamuseum.bsky.social near Copenhagen has been a real eye opener. It shows the complexity of the work she did from the 1960s and 70s and just how hard it was to be a female artist at the time.
A shoutout for @evelynwelch.bsky.social from Seth Meyers to brighten up a very wintery Wednesday in Manchesterπ

A man digging for worms in southeastern Sweden discovered a medieval hoard containing pearls, pendants, silver rings, and an estimated 20,000 coins. Archaeologists determined that most of the silver coins date to the 12th century.

Cover of JOAD RAYMOND WREN: The Great Exchange Making the News in Early Modern Europe
#onmydesktoday is a big and timely book about European communication by the great Joad Raymond Wren. Exploring a world of #earlymodern newsmongers, translators and postmasters, Joad highlights that news moved and were shared, and that news binds us together. Good news for #skystorians.
Fantastic post on the blog today by Joe Black, who discusses Lady Bindloss's booklist--evidence of what books she bought, how she ordered them from London, and even how she shelved them by color earlymodernfemalebookownership.wordpress.com/2025/08/20/l... #EarlyModern #HerBook
